Hugh urged Lambert to meet the old man without any hesitation.
In the past, Hugh understood that Lambert often silently accepted the old man's favoritism to not make it difficult for his parents. He always seemed indifferent and obedient.
Lambert knocked on the old man's door and immediately heard a stern voice from the study.
"Come in!"
He pushed the door open to be met with the old man standing by the desk, looking gloomy as he angrily yelled, "You know to come back?"
Lambert calmly responded, feigning ignorance, "I wonder what it is that has Grandfather in such a rage."
The old man coldly snorted, "Playing dumb now? I heard you are trying to terminate the contract with HCT Financial Company. Do you know how much the penalty for breach will be?"
He said, "Griffin's HCT Financial Company is unstable. I'm doing this for the company."
"Humph! Do you think that because I'm old, you can fool me? Let alone that the Meadows family is one of the more prestigious families, Griffin's entry into a famous international group at such a young age, and having been there for quite a while, is enough to prove that he is capable of steadying the foundation."
Lambert slightly raised his eyebrows. To him, apart from the Meadows family backing Griffin which wasn't too bad, the other conditions meant nothing.
In terms of academic background and experience, Griffin still fell slightly behind Lambert, a point the old man was apparently unaware of.
Lambert reluctantly responded, "This man is not as suitable for partnership as you might think."
Griffin sought a partnership with the Stone Group to be close to Ariana, not out of sincerity. This alone proved he wasn't suited for such cooperation.
It wasn't that Lambert was worried that Griffin would do something detrimental to the Stone Group, but rather that he was concerned for Ariana's reputation.
The old man scoffed coldly, "Hmm, don't think I don't know what you're up to! Don't even think about it! Even if Griffin has feelings for Ariana, you can't be so emotionally involved. This is the business world, not a love story! If you can't fully devote yourself to the company's affairs and instead want to use your position to chase love, then you shouldn't do it at all!"
Lambert seemed indifferent, "Then, what does Grandfather think is the best course of action?"
"I'll give you another chance to take full charge of this cooperation. This is a test. If you fail, your position will be revoked, and you'll be sent abroad to gain more experience!" The Old Mr. Stone spoke with solemnity.
Upon hearing this, he quirked an eyebrow. He understood that being sent abroad wasn't for gaining experience, it was essentially exile.
Taking it all in stride, Lambert said, "Well then, I hope Grandfather will be able to withstand the impact Griffin would bring."
Old Mr. Stone dismissed the idea, "What kind of influence could a young lad bring? If you're scared, let your cousin, Finely, take over. I won't bother you!"
He lightly chuckled and said, "Since grandfather has said so, wouldn't it look bad if I don't take responsibility?"
Looking at the nonchalant Lambert, Old Mr. Stone felt a sense of unease. The latter seemed too composed as if the outcome of this matter wasn't of much importance to him.
His annoyance grew, "Get out! If you can't do it well, don't you dare come back!"
Without uttering a word, Lambert left.
In the bedroom, Ariana hadn't settled down yet. Hearing Lambert open the door, she quickly rushed over and asked, "How did it go? Are you okay?"
She had just had a rare encounter with her father-in-law who told her that Lambert went to talk to Old Mr. Stone.
How could Ariana not know? That's why she has been trying to convince Griffin of what she had said before!
"Did the old man say anything to you earlier?"
She remembered that Lambert was probably scolded just now. Since Lambert usually didn't show any particular reactions to the old man's outrageous comments, Ariana couldn't really tell if there was an issue.
Lambert had no intention of hiding anything from Ariana and said honestly, "He told me to be responsible for the project cooperation with Griffin! The ultimatum is that if I don't do well, I will be sent abroad for more training and experience."
"What?" Ariana was taken aback, feeling a surge of anger in her heart, "This is clearly him deliberately making things difficult for you. He knows you want to terminate the contract but instead, he goes against you. He clearly wants to send you abroad!"
Lambert didn't seem to mind this, "Continuing to cooperate with Griffin is not impossible for me!"
"But I'm about to start school soon. After that, I'm afraid I won't be able to help you much."
Ariana had many worries. She must go to school, but over here, with Lambert, it felt like being surrounded by enemies on all sides. If she were to leave the company, it might become more difficult for him.
He rarely saw Ariana openly express her concerns about him. He reached out to pinch her soft jaw, "I never thought that after all this time, you still don't believe in my abilities."
She pulled his hand down unhappily, "It's not that I don't believe. Even the most elite soldiers can get tired. At that point, if we fall behind even a little, we'll be relentlessly pursued and attacked!"
Not to mention, other than the bigger rooms, Griffin also seemed to be exploited by others. Unfortunately, she couldn't take hard measures against Griffin, making the situation hard to handle.
Lambert smirked, "You sound worried. Maybe you should comfort me first!"
