Lambert glanced at Ariana and then quirked an eyebrow, "So, how much would I make as a manager in your sales department?"
Ariana paused before saying teasingly, "How much do you want?"
Lambert squinted his eyes then murmured, "Six times a week?"
Ariana: "....."
Lambert found the twitch at the corner of Ariana's eye rather amusing. Playing it off as though he hadn’t seen it, he continued, "So, five times then?" Then, with an aggrieved look on his face, he said somewhat reproachfully to Ariana, "Since you took over the company, our time together has been greatly reduced… Alas, no clue on when my heir will be born."
Ariana, amused yet exasperated, managed to suppress her reddening ears and coughed out an answer. "What heir, you don’t even have a company yet."
Lambert’s eyes lit up at her words. He blinked and asked, "So, once my company is established, we will have a child?"
Ariana: "...I didn't say that." Even though she understood that Lambert was concerned about her well-being and tried to control his own desires. She had lost count of the number of times she had been awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of Lambert taking cold showers.
She always pretended to be asleep, but she knew exactly what was happening.
Each time, a wave of warmth would wash over her. She would hug her blanket close, waiting for Lambert to return, her eyes becoming moist each time she felt the careful movements and the cold radiating off him as he quietly climbed back into bed.
She had never experienced such concern before and she cherished it deeply.
With these thoughts in mind, her resolve crumbled when she saw the eager look in Lambert's eyes. Coughing lightly, she replied, "We can talk about children once I've graduated… or when the company is stable. As for the other matter… well we can, add one to that."
Lambert paused, and then understanding dawned upon him as he noticed the blush of Ariana’s ears and the twinkling in her eyes.
He suddenly burst into hearty laughter.
Then swiftly, he enfolded Ariana into his arms, his chest aflame with warmth and a sense of amusement at his lover's response.
He had only been joking when he said that.
He knew that Ariana was not very good at joking, so it had become a habit for Lambert to play jokes on her from time to time. But today, to his surprise, Ariana actually gave him a serious answer. How could he not find that adorable?
Lambert's eyes twinkled with amusement as if they were filled with tiny stars.
He chuckled, "How about tonight?"
Ariana coughed once more. She quietly replied, "Not today. I have an exam tomorrow."
Lambert couldn't hide his disappointment. He blinked and asked, "Will just one time be okay?"
Ariana furrowed her brows and pondered.
Lambert continued to assure her, "Just once, truly just once. After that, you can sleep peacefully. I promise I won't disturb your exam tomorrow, do you not believe me?"
Ariana glanced at him and then calmly said, "That's exactly what you said last time. And what happened?"
Lambert argued with a thick skin, "Last time was last time. We are not talking about the past, but now. And I promise it's really true!"
Ariana was taken aback when she learned of this news. She was having dinner with Allison at the time, and with some surprise, she asked, "Are you sure?" Since she was busy with her company, she was not aware of the drastic changes that had occurred.
Beverly is actually going to become Lambert's future sister-in-law...
It's unimaginable.
Wasn't she interested in Lambert?
Allison nodded, replying, "I am sure. The Stone and Lawrence family have already announced that they will hold their engagement ceremony in two months. You didn't know?"
Ariana was slightly embarrassed and blinked to hide her unease, "Recently... I've been in the company..."
Allison gave a scornful snort, saying, "Are you pulling another all-nighter at the company? You wouldn't be this uninformed if you weren't. How busy can you get? Don't you care about your health?" Ariana often had stomachaches mainly caused by her habit of staying up late and eating late-night meals.
Every time Allison saw Ariana staying up late, she would reprimand her.
Over time, whenever Ariana pulled an all-nighter, she would subconsciously feel guilty in front of Allison. This guilty conscience had persisted for two lifetimes and had not faded, showing how serious her trauma was!
Ariana cast a quiet glance at Allison then cleared her throat, "I don't stay up all the time... have you forgotten? I have Lambert to help me when things get too overwhelming." Indeed, Lambert couldn't bear to see his wife handling company matters day and night either, so sometimes he would assist her with her work so she could rest.
This led to an improvement in Ariana's situation.
Otherwise, she would be sporting a pair of dark circles under her eyes today, and Allison would have noticed without her needing to say a word.
