Even if Jane had been chattering obnoxiously before to the point of annoying everyone, the four of them remained indifferent. However, this time, her words truly ignited Ariana's anger.
Living her life all over again, the most important person to Ariana was none other than her best friend.
Now, watching Jane insult her friend, how could she possibly endure?
However, before she could even utter a word, Stefan was already making his move.
Jane knew she had misspoken the moment those words escaped her lips. Unable to retract them, she could only bite her teeth in regret. Seeing the ominous look on Stefan's face as he approached her, she immediately panicked and defensively yelled out, "What are you trying to do?"
Her exclamation successfully drew the attention of the other shoppers, making them cast questioning glances as they wondered what was going on.
Allison was also somewhat worried.
She took a few steps forward and held onto Stefan's sleeve.
Stefan reassured Allison with a glance, then emotionlessly said to Jane, "Whether you can live till now in the White family due to Ariana's softheartedness or for some other reasons, it has nothing to do with me. But you will pay for the words you said today. Trust me."
Jane's face instantly turned paler than paper.
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but in the end, she didn't, her face showed a terrified look as she retreated slowly, watching Stefan.
Then he left with Allison.
Ariana also gave Jane a cold look, then turned and followed in the direction where Allison left.
As for Lambert, he looked at her with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, then leaned in close to her. At Jane's somewhat dazed and bashful moment, Lambert whispered into her ear, "I heard you were discharged from the hospital because you broke your leg. Are you going back once it heals?"
Jane's face turned deathly pale and she looked at Lambert as if gazing at a demon, she stammered, "What... what are you trying to do?"
Lambert sighed, his face expressing helplessness, "I don't intend to do anything. I'm just concerned about my wife's younger sister. I think your illness hasn't fully recovered yet."
Jane's face turned even paler. She screamed uncontrollably, "I am not sick!" She understood Lambert's hidden meaning. By saying that she hadn't recovered yet, he was indicating the need to return her to that hospital! She refused! She definitely did not want to go back! There are so many mentally ill people in that hospital that she might end up insane one day.
Lambert nodded, his tone troubled but resigned, "Yes, you're not sick."
Those around them, watching their interaction, immediately grasped the situation. Apparently, this young girl had a mental issue; no wonder she was rambling.
Thinking about this, people swiftly increased their pace.
They worried that this girl might hurt someone if she suddenly lost control.
Meanwhile, Kiara was completely out of it. She looked at Jane with a somewhat blank expression, then similarly looked at her brother-in-law. Her mind seemed a bit confused.
Yet Jane was still furiously saying, "You wish! I'm not sick! Lambert, you're slandering me!"
Kiara looked at Jane acting like a deranged lunatic, and after hesitating for a long while, thinking that the other party was her sister, she stepped forward and asked worriedly, "Are... Are you okay?"
That question seemed to ignite a nerve in Jane who turned her head swiftly.
Looking at Kiara, she couldn't suppress the disgust and viciousness in her eyes, "Are you here to mock me? I warn you, you are nothing but a fake! If you're smart, you would leave the White family as soon as possible. Otherwise don't blame me if something happens to you in the future!"
Taken aback, Kiara felt a dull pain in her heart.
Although she had seen this over many instances, she really couldn't help speaking out this time. Her voice hoarse she said, "I've always wanted to know, you think I'm not your sister, whether it's because you value Kiara, the sister in your heart, too much. Or is it that in your heart Kiara is dead and can never come back to life?"
Jane's face stiffened, her expression momentarily revealing a sense of being called out.
But in the next moment, she regained her composure. She laughed coldly, "No matter what you say it's useless. You're not Kiara, trying to establish a relationship with me to stay here, it's impossible."
Watching her, Kiara slowly broke into a smile. It was full of self-mockery and fatigue.
In a deep voice, she said, "If it were before, maybe I would have left. But now, Jane..." She slightly lifted her head, emotionless-faced Jane, "If you want to drive me out, you can go to my uncle and aunt and explain everything. If they ask me to go, I will certainly leave. If they do not, I will not leave the White family, no matter what happens. You don't have to think of ways to threaten me to leave. This is also my home, why should I leave?"
Especially since she really regarded Ariana as her sister and her kind aunt and uncle as her parents.
She did not want to leave this home.
