Rebirth Revenge Is Everything (Ariana) novel Chapter 278

Ariana chuckled helplessly, looking at Fanny, and asked incredulously, "Since when have you become so close with Maxwell? Even delivering his invitations for him?"

Fanny shrugged nonchalantly, her eyes gleaming with greed as she replied, "He paid me fifty thousand for the errands."

Ariana: "......"

Fanny met Ariana's complex gaze, and couldn't resist puffing her chest out with pride, "Don't undervalue this fifty thousand, it can do quite a few things!"

Ariana quirked her lips, “Are you short of this fifty thousand?”

Given Fanny’s family situation, her monthly allowance was at least a hundred thousand.

The circumstances of Fanny’s and Ariana’s households were different. Ariana was strictly managed from childhood; Moreover, her pocket money wasn't much with Jane around. But Fanny’s case was different. She only had brothers and was the only girl at home, receiving more affection and pampering.

A hundred thousand a month was just Ariana's conservative estimate. Considering the gifts her mother and grandfather occasionally gave her, a rough estimate of her assets might be a few million, or even tens of millions.

Fanny understood the look on Ariana’s face.

She promptly wiped imaginary tears from her eyes, pityingly choked up, “I’m walking the same path as others, aren't I?”

Ariana: “Hmm?”

Fanny wailed, “Marriage alliance! Business marriage alliance!”

Ariana was a bit taken aback. She stared blankly at Fanny for a long while, finally replied slowly, “I remember you once told me that you aren’t against marriage alliances..." Fanny might be one of the few who have no resentment towards marriage alliances. This isn’t to say that most young ladies of such backgrounds would reject marriage alliances.

They knew about alliances in marriage and agreed to it.

However, the agreement does not necessarily mean non-resistance.

It was more of a compromise for the lifestyle they had already become accustomed to, as well as the orders of their family.

Yet, Fanny was an odd one out! Ever since high school, she and Ariana had been wondering who her future husband would be. She even sifted through various corporate heirs to pick her future husband, such actions certainly cannot be considered unassuming. But now, she was unwillingly expressing her resistance to such an arranged marriage which puzzled Ariana.

Of course, she didn't necessarily want to be part of an arranged marriage. She was just curious about her friend's change of heart. She wanted to know what happened.

Living up to the gossip expectation in Ariana's eyes, Fanny helplessly began to explain her situation.

She said, "The thing is, my family arranged a marriage alliance for me recently. Actually, I was prepared for this, I even picked out my future wedding dress! But after witnessing the marriage between you and Lambert, I started to have this tiny expectation. Expecting my future match to treat me as kindly as Lambert. Though arranged marriages are business-oriented, who doesn't want their future spouse to like them? Especially when your husband took the domineering step of leaving the Stone family for you!"

Ariana: "..."

Ariana slightly twitched her eye, then continued: "And then?"

Fanny's rising mood suddenly collapsed. She looked pitifully at Ariana and said sorrowfully: "As a result, my arranged marriage partner turned out to be someone I had never thought of!"

Ariana helplessly responded, "Well, who is it?"

Fanny cleared her throat and said, "It's from the Castro family."

Of course, the real situation was not really like this.

It was actually because when Fanny was a child and visited the Castro family, she overheard other children discussing the fact that Maxwell's elder brother was an illegitimate child and she picked up some details. Promptly, she was persuaded that illegitimate children were very bad and they intentionally smeared him. At that time, nearly every family had some illegitimate children, but none of them were brought into the family.

So all those children, who listened to their mothers gritting their teeth while speaking, had a negative perception of illegitimate children.

Then Fanny, who was somewhat disgusted by the situation, approached Maxwell’s older brother, who was quietly eating at the banquet table, with her small chest puffed up and pride in her stride. Lifting her chin defiantly, she asked, "Are you an illegitimate child? If you are, then why do you dare to appear so openly in the Castro family? Are you trying to steal your younger brother's inheritance?"

The sound of that sentence was not loud, but it successfully made everyone who heard it fall silent for a moment.

Soon after, the area became as silent as death.

This awkward pause lasted for quite a while and was broken only after Brother Maxwell left with a blank expression.

Later, Fanny's father also learned about this incident.

She was nearly chastised thoroughly.

At that time, although Fanny didn't understand what had happened, she was genuinely traumatized by that beating. Later, her father dragged her to the Castro family's home to apologize. After all, Maxwell's father, the then-head of the Castro family, was especially affectionate toward his eldest son. So, this incident was nothing short of a slap on the face. Of course, Maxwell's father wouldn't say anything about it, even if he was upset, he wouldn't reveal anything.

But Maxwell's brother coldly glanced at Fanny and then walked away.

It's been so many years since the incident.
