At that time, the Lawrence household was in total chaos.
The head of the Lawrence family sat emotionlessly on the sofa, shrouded in darkness. His wife sat beside him, not daring to utter a word. Only an hour prior, she had quickly sent their daughter home, fearful that if she stayed any longer, her husband would continue to scold her. However, it appeared she had made a wrong move.
If she had let their daughter, Beverly, stay, the admonishment her husband would have dished out would have been dispersed, easing his anger.
At least he wouldn't be as infuriated. Someone else would have shared his wrath. But now, there was no one else, so all of his fury was directed at her.
Indeed, this episode was partly her fault.
The head of the Lawrence family stayed silent for a while before turning his cold gaze towards his wife, who was still beside him. He sneered, "What are you still doing here?"
Startled, his wife quickly raised her hands in defense, her face pale as she stuttered, "I...I didn't...I just..."
Not interested in hearing her explanation, he coldly ordered, "Leave now. Get out of the Lawrence family house. I don't want to see you for a while."
Had it not been for her false information, he wouldn't have recklessly dealt with Lambert. He had anticipated a weighty sentence, but it wasn't enough to quell his resentment. So, before the trial, he had someone slip an addictive drug into Lambert's food.
Although it wasn't poison, it was enough to ruin Lambert.
The drug he used caused addiction, the kind commonly found in nightclubs, also known as 'dp'.
His thought was to get Lambert addicted before he went to jail, thinking it would torture him. But who could have predicted that the plaintiff would withdraw the lawsuit just before the trial? Just thinking about it, he could guess the reason why. What else could it be? The Stone family must have gone back on their word.
This sudden development almost made Mr. Lawrence explode.
He completely froze.
Numerous thoughts lingered in his mind, trying to decipher what the Stone family was trying to convey with this move. Were they suggesting they would protect Lambert at all costs, even if it meant breaking off their marriage alliance with the Lawrence family?
Or something else?
If only the Stone family had this attitude from the beginning. He would not have insisted on taking revenge on Lambert. He might even be glad; pleased that the Stone family gave him such a great opportunity. He could utilize this to claim some compensation from the Stone family. Even though Beverly did something wrong toward the Stone family, the incident caused the Lawrence family's reputation to sustain the same damage. The Lawrence family could've claimed some minor compensation.
But the Stone family chose to abandon Lambert.
In other words, Lambert had no relationship with the Stone family anymore.
Thus, with no plausible reason, the Lawrence family was naturally on the losing end, not only losing quite a few deals because of Beverly but also suffering a huge blow to their reputation, causing their stocks to plummet. Out of nowhere, Beverly’s father had no choice but to target Lambert. Everything he did could actually be considered as revenge, including the car accident and the stint in jail.
What he did was quite enough.
Originally, Mr. Lawrence was already appeased and prepared to let go. After all, Lambert was a member of the Stone family, and he was doing all this to give them a piece of their own medicine. However, his wife informed him that Lambert wasn’t part of the Stone family. Surprised, Mr. Lawrence didn’t think twice about controlling himself. Since he wasn’t a member of the Stone family, there was no point in teaching them a lesson. So, he unleashed all his anger on Lambert.
