Gwen and Ariana didn't chat for long before the old man finished his business, and Lambert came to find them.
Upon seeing Lambert, Gwen laughed lightly and greeted, "Hello, Brother."
Lambert glanced at her and nodded slightly. Then, he turned to Ariana with a furrowed brow, whispering, "Why don't you wrap another piece of clothing when you walk around?"
Ariana was helpless, "It's not cold here."
The Stone family kept the entire manor warm. But the lounge area was not as well-conditioned as the bedrooms. The open space made it seem a bit chilly even if it was warmed.
Lambert frowned, apparently still somewhat discontented.
As Gwen watched their interaction, her eyes could not help but flicker with a touch of envy.
In such a wealthy family, real affection between couples was scarce, and most were marriages born of commercial interests. Like her and Finley, and Beverly and Arnold. In comparison, the pairing of Lambert and Ariana was a rare occurrence. What's more, she had heard that Lambert had once wanted to leave the Stone family for Ariana, which left her heart with an indescribable feeling.
So considering all this, even she felt a bit miffed, let alone Beverly.
Lambert did not waste much time there. After Ariana bid farewell to Gwen, he led her upstairs.
While ascending the stairs, Ariana nearly slipped due to distraction. The color drained from Lambert's face immediately. Unmindful of Ariana's protests, he picked her up and carried her bridal style into their bedroom. The maids who witnessed this scene blushed, casting envious gazes at Ariana.
Once inside the room and laying her on the bed, Lambert saw her flushed face with her eyes glaring menacingly at him.
Not knowing what he had done to upset his wife, he asked with some apprehension, "What's wrong?"
Ariana muttered, "Next time here, don't...umm, do such attention-grabbing actions..." Honestly, being the center of attention didn't feel that... great. It was quite embarrassing, but she didn't know how to express it. Half of it was shyness, and the other half was helplessness.
She is not yet ready for the whole Stone family to see her public display of affection.
If Old Mr. Stone, her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and others saw this, she would indeed feel quite embarrassed.
It's truly embarrassing!!
Upon seeing his wife flushing with embarrassment, a hint of warmth and helpless amusement flashed in Lambert's eyes. He lightly flicked Ariana's forehead and assured. "Alright. Alright. I understand." After that, he added, "I'll prepare a glass of milk in the kitchen for you, it'll help you sleep better tonight."
Taken aback, Ariana quickly stopped him and asked, "Wait, you're doing it yourself?"
Don't servants normally do this sort of thing?
That's how things usually were in their circle.
And she had never seen Lambert showing a diligent side. From what she had observed, this guy would sit rather than stand and lay down rather than sit. His sheer laziness nearly exhausted all of Stefan's energy at the company— this is one of the reasons why Stefan always appeared displeased upon seeing Lambert.
Upon hearing Ariana's question, Lambert raised his eyebrow and replied, "Of course, I always tend to your needs personally. Just wait patiently, I'll be right back." After finishing his sentence, he turned around, pushed the door open, and left.
All left was a flabbergasted Ariana, whose gaze darted around the room, unsure where to rest.
