"Lambert."
As soon as he entered the study, Gilbert turned his head to look at Lambert.
Lambert glanced up: "Yes?"
Gilbert looked at him and then slowly said, "Actually, I've been wanting to talk to you for some time, but I just haven't had the right opportunity. With Jane coming home today, I thought it's a good time to talk to you about something important."
Lambert bowed his head slightly and said, "Please speak."
Gilbert gestured for Lambert to sit, and after a silent moment, Lambert sat on the sofa across from Gilbert.
Looking at his daughter's husband, who had an indifferent expression, Gilbert could feel a wave of emotion. In fact, he quite liked this son-in-law because he could see that Lambert really loved his daughter.
However, there were certain matters he needed to bring up in advance.
Otherwise, he was really worried about potential discord amongst the three children in the future.
With Jane coming home today, he had purposely looked at Ariana's expression. Seeing her icy gaze, he could tell she still had some grudges against Jane. Although what Jane had done in the past was undeniably wrong, no matter what, Gilbert couldn't abandon Jane. After all, she was the daughter of his brother.
She was entrusted to him by his brother on his deathbed.
So after pondering, he decided to take advantage of this time to have a thorough conversation with Lambert.
Although Lambert had no idea what Gilbert wanted to discuss with him, his attitude remained respectful, considering the man's status as his father-in-law. Even though, the more he understood about Ariana's family, the less affection he felt towards his in-laws. But, they were still Ariana's parents and the respect they deserved should still be accorded.
Gilbert looked at Lambert before finally saying, each word clear and deliberate, "Lambert. I don't know if Ariana has told you about Jane's background."
Lambert looked surprised at Gilbert before nodding and answering, "She did."
In truth, it was never mentioned, but Lambert had done his research. He knew the affairs of Jane and Kiara.
Because of this, he felt somewhat disgruntled towards this pair of in-laws after the fact. Although his parents may have treated him with some level of inequality since he was a child, they gave him their all. Their needs were always catered to him first, making him more fortunate than Ariana.
After all, the most important thing for a child is their parents' love, but it is abundantly clear that this pair of in-laws did not meet this standard.
When Gilbert heard that Ariana had talked about Jane and Kiara's matter, his expression was evidently more relieved.
Subsequently, he said, "You may know that Jane and Kiara are the only two daughters of my deceased younger brother. Kiara has been drifting around all these years. Though I tried to find her for many years, she had suffered a lot. Due to Jane's kidnapping, her temperament might be a bit difficult. For this, I am to blame. Perhaps Georgia and I have spoiled her too much."
Lambert's expression remained indifferent, "If you have something to say, just say it."
Gilbert heaved a sigh almost immediately.
He said in a low voice, "This is the situation, Lambert. I plan to divide the White family inheritance into three parts, giving Ariana, Jane, and Kiara, one part each. This issue has been on my mind for a long time, but I didn't know how to bring it up. Now that I see you and Ariana are so close, I don't need to worry too much about Ariana."
