After Ariana's not-so-subtle cold reminder, Gilbert launched a thorough investigation across the entire company, leaving no stone unturned. He even delved into areas he had previously overlooked, all of this done in complete secrecy.
His eyes widened in shock and fury when the findings were laid out before him. The documents were filled with unbelievable and infuriating revelations, causing him deep pain and regret. He regretted the years of kindness, affection, and love he had poured into someone who turned out to be nothing but a traitor.
He truly hadn't expected this.
Although he had once briefly suspected Jane when he couldn't identify the mole, he quickly dismissed the thought. Jane had been like a daughter to him since childhood! He had invested countless hours and emotions into her upbringing. Due to his younger brother's circumstances, he had almost transferred all his paternal love to Jane.
Yet, he never imagined she could stoop to such actions...
In the past, he had consoled himself by thinking she was just immature. Though he felt a pang of guilt towards his elder daughter, he still hoped she could be understanding, believing Jane would eventually grow up. Gilbert knew deep down that he had been biased, but it had become a habit over the years to dote on Jane as his daughter.
Of course, his elder daughter was also his child.
But it's inevitable for parents to show some favoritism between two daughters.
Now, he was truly enraged... He never imagined Jane would collude with a rival company to undermine White Enterprises! He couldn't fathom what she stood to gain from this. Was she offered greater benefits by someone else? Or was she aiming to seize control of White Enterprises? Recalling how Jane had recently expressed her desire to be officially recognized as his daughter, he felt he was beginning to understand something.
"Bang—"
Gilbert's heart ached more and more as he thought, and the anger in his eyes deepened. Finally, he could no longer control his emotions and slammed the documents onto the ground with a loud thud. His clenched fists turned slightly blue, and his eyes were icy cold. His once slightly aged and cloudy eyes now held a deep, brooding darkness.
...
Jane was blissfully unaware of the impending disaster.
At that moment, she was at Vincent's house.
Looking at Vincent sitting in his wheelchair, Jane felt a complex mix of emotions. Then, as if struck by a sudden thought, she said, "Vincent, the White family is almost finished. Once Gilbert steps down, I’ll take over as the chairman. But I’m afraid Ariana might try to stop me. So, Vincent, I hope you can help me."
Vincent gazed at the pitiful Jane, his heart filled with tenderness. He smiled and said, "Of course."
The confidential information Jane had recently stolen was like a miracle cure for the Thomas family, which had been on the brink of collapse. Most of the Thomas family’s businesses had already recovered by half.
This had even softened Vincent’s father’s stern demeanor.
The father-son relationship had returned to its former warmth.
This made Vincent very happy. Moreover, the doctor had told him there was still hope for his legs to recover, which added to his joy. Looking at the naive Jane before him, Vincent felt a surge of pride. He believed his charm was still intact; otherwise, how could Jane remain so devoted to him at this critical moment?
