In the end, Allison never went back home. Instead, she set up camp at Ariana’s place.
The thought of returning to her parents’ house only to endure their nagging made her decide to stay put. She simply moved in with Ariana, who was more than happy to have her.
But Lambert’s expression grew darker by the day.
He shot a disdainful glance at Stefan, whose hair seemed to have turned prematurely white from the stress of Allison’s absence. After enduring nearly five days of his and Ariana’s private time being disrupted, Lambert finally decided it was time to take drastic measures.
Leaning against his sofa, he eyed the visibly agitated Stefan and asked bluntly, “Still haven’t fixed this?”
Stefan rubbed his temples. “Obviously.”
If he could’ve resolved this, Allison wouldn’t still be staying at their place!
Truth be told, Stefan had been running back and forth to Lambert’s house these past few days, but no amount of coaxing could convince Allison to return home. He knew she was genuinely upset this time. And to think, he was suffering all this for no fault of his own—his resentment toward Lexi only deepened.
If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t be in this mess!
Naturally, he hadn’t gone to that so-called "date."
With his wife already refusing to come home, showing up for that meeting would have been the final nail in the coffin—divorce papers would’ve been next. For the sake of his marriage, he had unceremoniously stood up the mayor’s daughter.
Even if it earned him her hatred, he couldn’t care less.
Lambert gave him a sidelong glance. “You need to settle this quickly. Otherwise, things between you and Allison will only get worse.”
Stefan sighed. “I know. But I’ve already made myself perfectly clear to Lexi.”
He couldn’t wrap his head around why this privileged young woman was so fixated on dredging up the past, insisting on clearing up some supposed misunderstanding. Frankly, he couldn’t care less about any of it.
Back then, that arranged marriage had seemed utterly inconsequential to him.
Since the young lady wasn’t interested, he had simply let it go.
But who could have guessed that after all these years, Lexi would suddenly reappear? And not only that—she now acted as though their past had been some grand love story. She kept insinuating that his marriage to Allison was nothing more than a business arrangement, and while divorce might be frowned upon, she could "help" him and so on. Stefan’s expression had twitched uncontrollably when he heard those words.
This was the first time he had ever encountered such a delusional woman.
Had he ever once said that his marriage to Allison was a business deal? And had he ever, even for a moment, implied that he had once been in love with Lexi?
If anything, the business arrangement had been between him and Lexi back then.
Marrying Allison had never felt like a transaction to him. On the contrary, he cherished their marriage deeply—because he genuinely loved her. Maybe his feelings hadn’t been so strong at first, but as the days passed, Stefan found himself falling harder and harder without even realizing it.
Lambert said coolly, "Just ignore Lexi. Give her the cold shoulder for a few days, and she’ll get the message."
The moment those words left Lambert’s mouth, Stefan’s brow furrowed.
He replied icily, "I’ve been giving her the cold shoulder for who knows how long, but she doesn’t seem to notice at all. Instead, she thinks I’m holding a grudge over what happened back then. Tch! Talk about bad luck. If I’d known she’d turn out like this, I wouldn’t have even tried dating her, no matter how much pressure my father put on me."
Lambert smirked. "What’s done is done. Complaining won’t change anything. I’m giving you one day to get Allison out of my house, or else I won’t be responsible for what happens next."
