After suffering a defeat at Ariana's hands, Madelyn finally took her leave.
Though she delivered a graceful farewell, it couldn't mask the frustration simmering beneath her composed facade. Her retreating figure might have looked poised, but the stiffness in her posture betrayed her true state.
This round had undeniably been hers to lose.
But it didn’t matter. The next encounter could go either way.
Once Irene returned, she’d see how long Ariana could keep that smug look on her face. Let her enjoy her little victory for now—time was one thing Madelyn had plenty of.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the room...
Fanny watched as Madelyn and her entourage finally disappeared from sight, exhaling in relief. "What a waste of a perfectly good meal," she grumbled, plopping back onto the sofa with a scowl. "Just had to run into that kind of nuisance. Unbelievable."
Ariana couldn’t help but chuckle at her friend’s irritation.
Just then, Gwen returned.
The moment she stepped back in, she sensed the lingering tension in the air. Hesitantly, she asked, "What happened? Did something go wrong?"
Most people might have assumed Ariana and Fanny had argued—why else would the atmosphere feel so strained?
But Gwen knew better. The two were practically inseparable, rarely ever clashing. Besides, the energy between them didn’t carry the sharp edges of a fight. That was why she had to ask.
Fanny shrugged dismissively. "Nothing serious. Just ran into someone who rubs me the wrong way."
Ariana shook her head with an amused smile.
Fanny had lost her appetite and didn't feel like eating anymore. She turned to Ariana and Gwen, asking, "Are you guys done? Let's head out if you're finished." Truth be told, Fanny wasn't completely full, but she had no desire to continue. She figured she could just ask the family cook to whip up something simple for her later when she got home.
Gwen noticed Fanny's sour mood and wisely decided not to provoke her future sister-in-law. She glanced at Ariana instead, seeking guidance.
Ariana smiled lightly and said, "Sure, let's go."
Since she had accompanied Fanny out today, Ariana wasn’t planning to return to the Stone family or her company so early. She thought she might as well spend some time at Fanny’s place. As for Gwen, she made it clear she wanted to go back and check on Alvin. Neither Ariana nor Fanny had any reason to stop her, so they agreed.
Of course, the main reason was that Ariana didn’t want Gwen to feel any more awkward than she already did. Today’s meeting had already served its purpose for Ariana, so there was no need to keep Gwen around. As for how Gwen and Fanny would get along in the future—well, that was beyond her control.
With a polite smile at the two, Gwen took her leave first.
Meanwhile, Ariana and Fanny got into the car, and the driver took them straight to Fanny's place.
…
The Fernandes Family was no longer a minor household.
Though they still couldn’t compare to the likes of the Stone or Castro families, they had grown into a prominent clan in their own right.
