Yang Hongying wiped her tears and said, "Dad, she didn’t say anything. My mother-in-law was just chatting with me."
But how could Gu Zishan believe that? He started scolding again: "Don’t be too harsh. She’s pregnant now, how can you treat her like that? If it were your own daughter and she was being scolded all the time for no reason by her in-laws, how would you feel?"
Wang Guihua was beyond angry, feeling both wronged and saddened. Her anger and frustration were overwhelming, and just as she wanted to explain, a cold sensation swept over her body. Everything went black and she fainted.
Yang Hongying quickly went to support Wang Guihua, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach, triggered fetal movements, and collapsed on the ground. The house fell into utter chaos, and both women were rushed to the hospital.
Sun Chan asked, "Are they all right?"
"They’re fine, they’ve already come home to rest. Now each of them is in a separate room with a wet towel over their forehead. I’m quite helpless. My mom heard that my wife had a stomach ache, and started groaning, and hasn’t stopped since."
Sun Chan wanted to laugh but couldn’t, so she offered a few comforting words: "Should I go and take care of him?"
"No! We’re already taking care of the two of them. Who could have guessed my grandpa found out we were making dumplings at home and came over with some old comrades? Now they’re at home waiting to eat! But you know how clumsy my dad and I are, and the housekeeper happened to take a day off today. What should we do..."
It finally dawned on Sun Chan that she wasn’t being asked to care for the patients, but to make dumplings. What a blessing! She wouldn’t have to face Wang Guihua, which was quite a relief.
She let out a sigh of relief: "No problem. I’ll help you. Don’t worry, how many guests are there?"
"In total four, including my dad and me, six men, two women. Oh, if the dumplings aren’t enough, my wife and I can have dinner at home. These guys have a hefty appetite. I’m guessing we need at least two hundred dumplings? I’m really upset about this." Gu Juntao was utterly disheartened. It was all because of his own mother causing trouble with the dumplings. A perfectly good rest day was ruined!
"As long as we have enough dough, it’ll be fine. Don’t worry," Sun Chan said with a smile. "I can wrap dumplings quickly."
"Luckily, the filling is ready-made. They’ve already prepared it." Initially, Gu Zishan asked Gu Juntao to tell the neighbors and ask for their help, but Gu Juntao was too embarrassed. How could he say that my wife and my own mother both fainted, could you make a meal for our family? How humiliating!
He had to turn to Sun Chan for help.
Sun Chan and Gu Juntao returned to the compound together, and as they entered, they indeed saw several old men intensely discussing something, presumably military policies or something similar. The old men clearly didn’t know that anything had happened at home.
"When are we eating? My old fellows are starving! Your mom and your wife, what’s up with them? They’re both lying over there."
Sun Chan laughed and said, "It’s coming! Dinner will be ready soon. Auntie and my sister-in-law have prepared the dumpling filling, the rest is up to me." She greeted the elderly gentlemen and headed to the kitchen. She was getting really anxious.
Gu Juntao rolled up his sleeves: "Sister-in-law, what should I do?"
"Can you roll out the dough?"
"Not really, I’m slow at it, but I can wrap them."
Sun Chan nodded, washed her hands, and picked up a rolling pin: "Okay, I’ll do it. Let’s work together."
"Alright!"
Sun Chan began rolling out dumpling wrappers swiftly. Her hands moved quickly, and Gu Juntao watched as the dumpling wrappers seemed to fly out one by one.
Gu Juntao started wrapping them, and shortly, Gu Zishan also joined to help. He was both angry and helpless, all because of that troublemaking wife.
With Sun Chan rolling out the wrappers, she could easily supply the two men. They managed to prepare two hundred dumplings and started wrapping them together.
"This should do it. Shall we cook a batch first to eat?" Gu Zishan suggested.
