Yunyi had been truly exhausted these past few days; her eyes were so sore she could barely open them. When Assistant Liao Xiaojiao whispered in her ear, Yunyi didn’t catch everything, but she did hear the words "blood loss shock." With her eyes still closed, she reflexively sat up in bed, startling Liao Xiaojiao.
Sitting on the edge of the cot for a moment to gather herself, Yunyi, still bleary-eyed, turned to Liao Xiaojiao. "What’s the situation?" As she spoke, she was already fumbling for her shoes on the floor.
Liao Xiaojiao quickly briefed her. Yunyi then put on her shoes, stood up, twisted her hair into a simple bun, and splashed cold water from the basin onto her face, forcing herself awake. Without bothering to dry her face, she hurried out of the tent. "Who’s the lead surgeon?"
Liao Xiaojiao trotted after Yunyi. "It’s Director Gu."
Director Gu was the deputy leader of their medical team and a doctor of exceptional skill. If he had specifically requested her assistance, the patient’s condition had to be critical.
When Yunyi arrived, the patient was already on a makeshift operating table. She hurried to scrub in and change.
Gu Huailin spoke rapidly as Yunyi entered, "The situation is dire; I had no choice but to call you in."
Yunyi nodded. "My assistant just briefed me. Director Gu, are you saying we’re performing both brain and abdominal surgery simultaneously?"
Director Gu nodded, already guiding her to the patient. Pointing to the man’s head, he said, "Yes. He has a cranial fracture with active bleeding, and I need your help."
"I understand," Yunyi replied.
By the time their brief exchange ended, all preparations were complete. The operating room fell silent. One surgeon began the craniotomy, the other the laparotomy, one working on the patient’s left, the other on the right.

Something’s definitely gone wrong, Yunyi realized.
