James nodded in agreement with Bianca, thinking Emily had come to the racetrack just for him. After all, Emily had never been to such a place before, so how could she have found it otherwise?

“Who said I came here for him? Can you stop being so full of yourselves?” Emily rolled her eyes at them and continued walking.

James’s face darkened. He instinctively reached out to grab Emily. “Emily, since you followed me here, why are you still pretending? This time, I’ll be generous and won’t call off the engagement, considering our past. Just stay by my side, and we’ll talk after the race.”

Emily sidestepped to avoid James’s hand, but someone else was quicker–a hand slapped James’s away.

“What are you doing? Get your dirty hands off her! Ms. Johnson isn’t someone you can touch so casually.” Byron, who had been chatting with some racing buddies and was delayed, arrived just in time to see the scene. Without even looking at James’s face, he defended Emily and slapped James’s hand away.

Byron quickly approached and checked on Emily. “Ms. Johnson, are you okay? Don’t worry, I’ll handle this.”

He then turned to James, ready to unleash his anger, but when he saw James’s face, he paused and then smiled lazily. “Well, if it isn’t Mr. Smith. Didn’t you see that Ms. Johnson doesn’t want to talk to you? Why are you still pushing it? You need to respect women, you know?

He deliberately glanced at Bianca with a suggestive smile. “You already have another lady friend, don’t you? Just focus on her.”

Byron couldn’t understand why he had once thought Bianca was great. Emily had been right; he must have been blind. Bianca’s pretentiousness was now clear to him, and he found Emily’s straightforwardness and boldness much more appealing.

Bianca sensed Byron’s disdain and was furious. She almost ground her molars to dust. Byron had once been her admirer, but because of Emily, his attitude had changed drastically. She couldn’t understand what Emily had done or said to him.

“Byron, what a coincidence you’re here too. Don’t misunderstand; it’s not James trying to trouble Emily. Emily came here specifically for James, but she’s shy and embarrassed, which is why you saw what you did,” Bianca explained, tilting her head to show her best side and speaking in what she thought was a gentle and reasonable tone.

“Nonsense!” Byron spat, clearly disgusted by her words. “Who said Ms. Johnson came for Mr. Smith? I personally invited her here. You must be mistaken. I have a race soon, and I want Ms. Johnson to see me in action, so I won’t waste time talking to you.”

Byron turned to Emily, his expression softening instantly. “Ms. Johnson, sorry for being late. Let’s go. I’ll show you my car first, and then you can ride shotgun and experience it before the race.”

“Emily!” James couldn’t believe Emily was really leaving. She wasn’t here for him? He couldn’t accept it, especially seeing her with Byron, whom he considered a lowlife. Emily must have been led astray by such people.

“What? Ms. Johnson, you’ve been through that? That’s outrageous! Who dared to bully you? Tell me, and I’ll make sure they pay!” Byron was puzzled. Emily was so strong; how could she tolerate such treatment? It must be the power of love. James, as her fiancé, hadn’t protected her, so it was his fault.
