Chapter 141
“Alright!”
Daniel didn’t stick around, knowing they’d cross paths again soon.
As he stepped outside, he bumped into Charles, who had come to pick him up.
“Daniel, isn’t this villa sold? Who’d you sell it to? Already getting chummy with the new owner?”
Charles had no idea Emily was living there and asked out of curiosity.
Daniel didn’t keep it from him.
“Emily.”
His voice softened a bit when he said her name.
“Seriously? So you stayed there last night? You two…”
Charles made a kissing gesture with his fingers, eyes wide with surprise and a hint of teasing.
Daniel shoved him away with a firm hand, “Get your mind out of the gutter. Don’t go tarnishing her reputation.”
Charles realized he’d jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Emily and Daniel were still on the up and up, but Daniel’s feelings for her were anything but simple.
“Are you serious about Emily? She’s looking a lot better now, pretty even, but there are plenty of pretty girls out there. What do you see in
her?”
Charles was genuinely puzzled.
Daniel thought of Emily, a gentle smile naturally spreading across his face, “Everything about her is amazing.”
“You’re really into her?” Charles was taken aback by Daniel’s straightforwardness.
“Yeah! So, show her some respect. She’s gonna be my wife.”
Daniel’s tone was dead serious.
Though Charles still found it odd that Daniel had fallen for Emily, he respected his friend’s feelings and would respect Emily, too.
“Don’t worry, I will.”
Daniel nodded, satisfied.
It was no wonder he considered Charles one of his few good friends.
Even if Charles didn’t always get Daniel’s actions, he always had his back.
But Charles never expected to run into Emily in the first-class cabin of the plane.
And Emily wasn’t alone; she was with Aaron.
Seeing Emily, Charles hadn’t noticed Aaron yet and greeted her warmly.
“Hey Emily, what a coincidence! Daniel’s here too. This must be fate, huh?”
Charles grinned widely, his eyes showing no hint of disdain or suspicion.
Emily felt a bit awkward.
But hearing Daniel’s name, she instinctively looked over at Charles’s side and met Daniel’s gaze.
“Mr. Smith, what a coincidence. Are you heading to Regal City for business? You should take care of your health with all this early morning work.”
Emily’s concern was professional, but genuine.
Normally, Charles would have had a snappy comeback, but this time he smirked at Emily, “I didn’t know you cared so much about Daniel! You even checked his pulse this morning, more attentive than I, his friend. It’s really touching.”
Emily’s expression tightened.
His words sounded like teasing, but his sincere look made it hard to tell.
Emily forced a smile, “He’s my patient, so it’s my duty to care.”
Charles was a bit let down by her response.
Charles had hoped that if Daniel put in more effort, Emily would eventually fall for him. But it seemed like Daniel was the one with unrequited feelings.
Charles wanted to say more, but Daniel quietly reminded him, “Charles, that’s enough.”
Charles fell silent.
Emily couldn’t understand Charles’s sudden change in attitude, feeling a bit nervous. Seeing Charles quiet down, she relaxed a bit. She nodded at Daniel in greeting and continued discussing the AI project with Aaron, confident that Harold would be interested in investing.
Charles watched Emily and Aaron’s close conversation with concern, turning to Daniel, “Daniel, when did Emily get to know someone from the Hill family? They seem really familiar. Do you think she prefers someone like Aaron?”
Daniel’s eyes darkened, “No!”
His words seemed more like he was convincing himself-first James, then Knox, and now Aaron. Emily was indeed wonderful, but she was attracting too much attention. His gaze grew intense. For the first time, he wondered if he was doing the right thing.
