Chapter 153
‘No, James! How could you think that? Everyone just got caught up in the moment, and Chase was only worried about me. Can you please cut him some slack? He’s been super stressed about the whole plagiarism mess and just lost his cool, Bianca quickly interjected.
Her words were meant to show her generosity and also to extend an olive branch to Aiden and Chase. She had noticed a subtle shift in their attitudes toward her.
Sure enough, as soon as she spoke, Aiden and Chase looked remorseful. Especially Chase, who looked at Bianca with guilt. How could he have been influenced by Emily? They had lived with Bianca for so many years and knew her well.
Chase didn’t even plan to mention Emily’s demands. They remained silent, but James didn’t. He spoke up directly, “Of course, I can overlook it for your sake. After all, you’re so wise and kind. In that case, such a kind person like you should have no problem agreeing to Emily’s condition for Chase’s sake, right? Don’t worry, it won’t cost you your life!”
Bianca’s face changed slightly. She tried to stay calm. “What? James, are you still hung up on Emily and using her demands to target me? Don’t forget, I’m your fiancée now, and I’m carrying your child!”
Bianca tried to play the emotional card with the baby. But she forgot that the baby was an accident. If James hadn’t been pressured, he wouldn’t have gotten engaged to her. At this moment, he had lost the trust and affection he once had for her, so instead of feeling sorry for her, he grew impatient.
He sneered, “We can get rid of the baby, and as for the engagement, if you feel wronged, we can call it off.”
“James, watch your words! An engagement is not a joke, and you shouldn’t embarrass Bianca in front of us!” Aiden, anxious, sternly reminded him.
James had once been puzzled about why Emily was repeatedly blamed for “mistakes.” Now, he seemed to understand. Bianca, with her innocent face and calculating heart, was so similar to how Emily had been targeted.
James began to regret breaking off his engagement and even considered reconciling with Emily. He said in a deep voice, “I don’t want to talk about irrelevant things. Emily made a request. Since you took credit for her work, as long as you apologize publicly and explain the reason, she will provide evidence to clear Chase’s name. You’re so kind; you wouldn’t refuse, right?”
He had once said he admired her kindness the most. Now, if she refused, it would mean she wasn’t kind, and Bianca would completely lose his sympathy and indulgence.
But if she apologized, her carefully maintained image of being kind-hearted and compassionate would be ruined.
“Chase, if I have to apologize publicly, even if it means facing attacks, I’ll do it to help you. But I’m afraid Emily is just trying to humiliate me and won’t genuinely provide the evidence, Bianca said, wiping away non-existent tears. “Forgive me for being suspicious, but Emily has bullied me so much. If she doesn’t provide the evidence, Chase will still be in trouble, and my apology will push both Chase and the Johnson Group further into the spotlight. Is that what you want, Aiden?”
In essence, she didn’t want to do it. James looked at her with increasing indifference and detachment. “If you don’t want to, that’s fine. Chase, take care of yourself. I’m out.”
If he wanted to win Emily back, he needed to prepare. He had to consider her needs, play the emotional card, and use shared memories to
move her.
James had never felt so calm and clear-headed. He didn’t even glance at Bianca again and left.
Bianca didn’t dare to chase after him. She was still afraid James would force her to apologize online. As James left, the room fell into a
brief silence.
Aiden spoke up again, “We need to deal with Chase’s issue quickly. Let’s have the studio release a statement while we gather evidence. If we can’t, Bianca, we might need your help.”
“Yeah, Bianca, I’ll remember your kindness. I’ll make sure to repay you in the future,” Chase added.
Even now, Chase and the others treated Bianca well. Their bias was ingrained in their bones. Even though Emily would ultimately provide the effort, Bianca would end up being seen as the hero.
Emily would be hurt if she knew, but she would understand that this was their true nature.
Emily was at home working on some company plans when she saw the news about Chase’s studio’s statement. She smirked at the studio’s vague explanation. They were clearly buying time, not fully committing to any stance, in order to leave room for maneuvering.
‘Let’s see how calm they are when Chase has to pay up. Maybe we’ll get to see them turn on each other,’ Emily thought.
She returned to her work, but then Terry called.
“What’s up? Do you need technical guidance or financial support?” Emily asked.
Terry laughed, “Ms. Johnson, you guessed wrong. Aiden’s tech company is stuck on an AI project and somehow found me. The salary is high, so I’m asking for your opinion. Should I go?”
