Chapter 35
Violette’s face flushed with anger as soon as she heard those words.
She stepped in front of Emily, “You wanna touch Emily, you deal with me first!”
Even though she wasn’t super close to Eli, they were still family. Hayden was younger, and causing a scene would only mess up the Johnson family’s reputation.
Eli’s face stayed cold, “Move aside, or I won’t even think about helping you.”
Violette stood her ground, her neck stiff with defiance, refusing to budge.
Bianca’s eyes flickered as she stepped forward and took Violette’s hand, “Violette, aren’t you making things hard for my dad and Hayden? Emily’s your niece, but aren’t we your family too?”
As she spoke, she tried to pull Violette away.
Violette tried to break free, but as soon as she moved, Bianca put on a pained expression.
Violette felt torn. She cared deeply for Emily, but she also didn’t want to hurt Bianca, so she stopped struggling.
“Bianca, please talk to your dad and Hayden. Emily is your sister after all…”
“Violette, I’ve tried, but Emily might not listen to me,” Bianca said, looking troubled, twisting Violette’s words and shifting the blame onto Emily.
Emily wasn’t surprised by Bianca’s actions.
She glared coldly at Hayden, “Are you gonna make a move or not? If not, I’m taking Violette with me.”
“Stubborn fool, you asked for this. Don’t blame us for being ruthless!”
Hayden couldn’t believe that even without Violette’s protection, Emily still dared to be so defiant.
Hayden exchanged a glance with Eli, who nodded.
“No!”
Bianca shouted just as Hayden was about to strike.
Violette took advantage of Bianca’s momentary distraction to try to rush forward, but Eli blocked her.
It was too late for her to save anyone.
Just when everyone thought Emily was about to get hurt, a cry of pain echoed through the room. It was Hayden.
Everyone turned to see Hayden clutching his leg, writhing in pain on the floor.
‘Hayden…”
“Hayden!”
Bianca and Cleo, who had just come downstairs, rushed over in concern.
Eli remained calm, immediately calling for the butler to fetch the family doctor.

His sharp gaze turned to Emily, feeling both unfamiliar and out of control.
“When did you learn to fight?”
He hadn’t even seen Emily make a move, yet Hayden was already on the ground. Such speed wasn’t something an untrained person could achieve.
Emily feigned innocence, “What are you talking about? I don’t understand. I was just defending myself. You know, I grew up scavenging for food, sometimes having to fight off others, so I picked up a bit of strength.”
Of course, she wouldn’t admit it.
In her past life, after being thrown into a lake by thugs while trying to save Bianca, she had vowed to learn self-defense so she could protect herself and truly help Bianca.
Now, these skills had become her means of self-preservation, and it was ironic that she had to use them against the Johnson family.
It was truly ironic that the ones who hurt her the most were the Johnsons.
“You’re lying. You expect me to believe you didn’t train in combat? How else could you take down Hayden?” Eli scoffed, not believing her.
As they spoke, no one expected Cleo to suddenly step forward and slap Emily across the face.
*How dare you! That was Hayden! How could you be so vicious? I used to think you learned some tricks for self-defense, but now I see you’re rotten to the
core.
Cleo shouted at Emily, her voice trembling with emotion.
Emily’s expression remained cold as she stared back at Cleo, her heart churning with emotions.
She had shown motherly love to Bianca, Hayden, and perhaps any other child, but never to her.
“Yeah, rotten to the core,” Emily muttered sarcastically.
The Johnson family was rotten to the core, and she should never have had any expectations.
Violette saw the sadness in Emily’s eyes and pushed Eli aside.
She stood in front of Emily, facing Cleo coldly, “If it weren’t for your favoritism, Emily wouldn’t be like this. And her being kidnapped and having to survive out there, isn’t that your fault? How dare you blame her? Hayden was the one who threatened to break her leg first.”
Cleo’s face turned pale at Violette’s words.
Ignoring Cleo, Violette grabbed Emily’s hand, “If they don’t care about you, I do. Come on, let’s go home.”
Eli sneered, “Your family can barely take care of themselves. Do you think they can take care of her? If your family finds out you didn’t get my help because of her, what do you think will happen?”
Emily’s eyes turned icy as she looked at Eli.
He was hinting at something, and Emily understood.
So, he knew about the abuse Violette suffered at the Moores, yet he did nothing in her past life, allowing Violetteher to endure everything.
“What are you glaring at? Violette is suffering because of you!” Eli mocked.
Violette, however, comforted Emily, “It’s not your fault.”

Emily squeezed Violette’s hand, “Violette, do you trust me?”
Without hesitation, Violette nodded.
Emily felt a bit of the pain inflicted by the Johnson family ease with Violette’s unconditional trust.
