“Dad, don’t you think Mr. Reyes’s attitude towards Emily is kinda weird? And Byron’s reaction was off, too.”

Bianca, sitting in the living room sipping tea, felt something was off as she replayed the scene in her mind. She leaned in closer to Eli and spoke in a hushed tone.

Eli frowned slightly. “What are you getting at?”

He had sensed something was off, too, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

“Dad, don’t think I’m overthinking this, but Mr. Reyes didn’t seem to dislike Emily as much as I thought he would. And Byron seemed kinda scared of her. Could it be that Mr. Reyes actually likes Emily? That would explain Byron’s reaction…”

“Cut it out!”

Eli interrupted Bianca before she could finish. It was the first time he had scolded her so harshly. “Isaac may appreciate beauty, but he’s not stupid. Otherwise, how do you think the Reyes Group has gotten this far?”

“Stop saying things like this, especially since you’re a girl. Discussing your elders and your sister in this manner could harm your reputation if it becomes public. Do you understand?”

As he spoke, Eli glanced around nervously, worried that Isaac, who had stepped out to take a call, might overhear.

Bianca felt a bit uncomfortable being scolded, but she wasn’t entirely unreasonable. She quickly nodded obediently. “I get it. I was just worried that Emily might be going down the wrong path, and I got carried away.”

She hoped Eli was concerned about her reputation and not starting to defend Emily.

Bianca lowered her eyes, hiding the cold glint in them.

Just then, Emily opened the door, followed closely by Byron.

“Byron, are you feeling better? That’s great! I knew you were just troubled. We should have had Emily come over to apologize sooner. A troubled heart needs a heartfelt remedy.”

Bianca thought Byron, who was usually spoiled and unreasonable, was faking his illness convincingly. She believed she had figured it out and subtly blamed Emily for not apologizing sooner.

If Byron was indeed faking it and had made himself this ill, he must resent Emily deeply.

Unfortunately, she was wrong.

Byron was furious at Bianca’s insinuations, worried that Emily might misunderstand,

He scoffed, “Isn’t it your fault? You always play the victim, crying and hinting that Emily bullied you. How could I confront Emily without reason? Tell me, exactly how did Emily bully you? Give me specific examples!”

Byron’s mind cleared up. If Emily were as powerful as she seemed, she wouldn’t need petty tricks to make someone’s life miserable.

Emily raised an eyebrow, surprised at Byron’s sudden clarity.

“Really, Bianca? So you’ve been slandering me behind my back? Tell me, how exactly did I bully you? No wonder people dislike me wherever I go. It’s all thanks to you, Bianca!”

Emily looked at Bianca with a knowing smile, as if she could see right through her.

Eli was also taken aback. Byron had no reason to lie, but he had always believed Emily bullied Bianca. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have disliked Emily so much.

“Byron, I didn’t. You’ve misunderstood. I’ve never said Emily bullied me. I just felt sorry for her because of her past.”

Bianca’s eyes reddened, tears welling up as she looked pitifully at Byron. In the past, this would have softened his heart, but now he felt nothing but irritation.

A woman should be like Emily, someone worth his attention.

Thinking back, Byron realized that those he had “bullied” had all supposedly “bullied” Bianca.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt something was off. He needed to investigate further to ensure he wasn’t being played.

“Keep pretending. You think I’ll fall for it again? You’re not welcome here. Leave.”

“Byron, you’re still recovering. I don’t blame you for misunderstanding me. I’ll leave, but don’t get upset and harm your health.”

Bianca dug her nails into her palms to hide her anger. What had Emily done to make Byron change his attitude? Had she seduced him while they were alone? No wonder Emily had kicked her and Eli out.

This bitch had learned to seduce men. Bianca would have to be more cautious around her in the future.

“Dad, since Byron is better, we can leave now,” Bianca urged Eli.

She then turned to Emily, “Emily, are you staying with Byron or coming with us?”

She said this deliberately, hoping to sow doubt in Eli’s mind about Emily’s intentions.

Eli’s eyes narrowed, scrutinizing Emily. But instead of scolding her, he smiled and said, “Isaac, it seems the kids have made up. Let Emily stay and keep Byron company. It might help him recover faster.”

He had been considering potential alliances, and Byron seemed like a good choice. The three percent project loss today could be recouped if Emily were to marry into the Reyes family.

Isaac, ever shrewd, saw through Eli’s intentions. But he didn’t dare overreach.
