“No–no, that’s impossible!” Ulrich suddenly shouted, his voice cracking. “The detector must be broken!”

His words made Nathan’s expression harden. “Are you suggesting I deliberately shield him?”

Ulrich faltered, sweat pouring down his temples. “N–no, that’s not what I meant…”

Just then, Aubrey stepped forward, her voice calm and measured.

“It’s true that Shadowmoon Pack has been studying this virus. We’ve already named it—the Kajit virus. But its outbreak and spread have nothing to do with us.
