Reborn: The Tyrant's Obsession novel Chapter 122

Chapter 122: Did you know me before?

’’Why me, Adrian?’’ she whispered, "Why did you marry me?"

The moment those questions slipped past her mouth, Ella realized that she had spoken it out loud.

She was not expecting any answer. Especially now that Adrian seemed to have fallen asleep.

But the man who had his head positioned on her lap, moved slightly. His long eyelashes fluttered before a pair of onyx eyes stared at Ella.

Ella’s breath hitched. The sudden glow of Adrian King almost blinded her. Could this guy be a little less magnificent?!

He watched her intently and Ella knew that there was no way he did not hear her question.

"Adrian, why did you marry me back then?" Ella gave it a thought before adding, "Was it because of pity?"

She did not remember much but whatever she did, told her that she was in a pathetic state that night.

Adrian raised his hand.

Ella moved back on instinct, instantly reminded of how he had pulled her down for a kiss near the dresser.

But contrary to her expectations, the man’s fingers twirled a long strand of her hair, playing with it gently.

Her question ’was it because of pity’ received a resounding answer, because of the disinterest he showed in it.

"Then, did you marry me because you were bewitched by my beautiful looks?" Back then, Ella was on the peak of her modelling career so she took great care of herself.

Adrian’s lashes lowered slightly, and for a fleeting second, his grip on her hair tightened, so gently that it almost felt like a memory clinging to her.

"Because it’s always been you," he said, so simply, like it was the only truth that ever existed.

I married you because it’s always been you.

How domineering. How unhinged. How confusing. How Adrian!

He married me because it has always been me?

The depth of his words sunk into her gradually and Ella was hit with a bizarre notion, "Did you perhaps... know me before?"

The idea itself was inconceivable for her.

Although they stayed under the same skies, breathed the same air, saw the same sun and moon, Adrian and her were worlds apart.

She scoffed inwardly. As if a man like Adrian King could ever know her before...

Yet, why did it feel like he did?

Looking out of the window, Ella pondered over it as she waited for an answer but the answer never came.

When she looked down, Adrian had closed his eyes again. With his breathing evened out, he seemed to have fallen asleep.

After a while, Ella yawned a few times and leaned back on the headboard.

She reached out her hand to stir him a bit but in the end, she retracted her hand.

Due to his sleeping disorders, Adrian was never able to sleep properly. And when he woke up with an interrupted sleep, he was like a deranged beast, clueless of his surroundings.

Ella glanced at the man’s face. With his eyes closed, he looked unexpectedly harmless.

The thoughts from earlier floated back in her mind and she dismissed the idea.

There had never been an instance where she ever crossed paths with Adrian...

Lost in her thoughts, she gradually closed her eyes.

In her sleep, Ella felt her stiff back relaxing as her body nestled on something soft.
