’’I have reflected on my past actions these past few days. And I came to the realization that I was no less than a brainless and muddle headed pig when I spoke of all that nonsense." You want me to provoke the devil standing behind? Dream on!
There were sounds of approaching footsteps followed by a deep voice, ’’You are not all that.’’
"Hmm?" Ella turned to glance at Adrian, ’’Not what?"
’’Not brainless and muddleheaded,’’ Adrian raised his hand and stroked her hair, his gaze soft.
The simple exchange between the two stunned Esther. She stood up, looking at them dumbly with her hands shaking.
It was only when Ella gazed at her did Esther recover from her daze and greeted Adrian, ’’Mr. King.’’
Ella frowned and slowly stood up from the couch, ’’It’s really improper and distant the way you address him now. In the future, address him as brother-in-law."
Esther’s face blanched.
And when she looked at Adrian’s expressions, her face paled even further.
The whole time, Adrian had not looked away from Ella even once but Ella had looked at him only once.
If she looked at Adrian right then, she would have seen the way he looked at her. As if he could pluck the stars from the sky the moment she asked him to.
Esther’s stomach twisted but she forced a smile on her face, ’’Yes... Sis, I am not feeling well. I will come to visit you another day...’’
"Oh, there is another thing!"
Esther gritted her teeth, unable to fake her smile anymore, ’’Just tell me, sis..."
’’In the future, don’t come over to Eve Mansion frequently. We can always meet outside.’’
Esther’s lips twitched, ’’Why... do you say so?"
I am hitting two birds with a stone, can’t you tell?
Ella mentally rolled her eyes. Since she could not take big steps to get her freedom then baby steps, it would be.
For short instances at least, she needed to be out of the mansion. And secondly, she could prevent Esther from coming here constantly to stir up trouble.
"Your brother-in-law is a private person. Although he tolerates you because of me, I don’t want to trouble him constantly,’’ Ella hooked her arm around Adrian’s as she spoke.
The man stood there motionlessly like a stringless puppet, letting her do whatever she wanted. His damaged brain could only receive green signals from all sides, glitching from happiness.
On the other hand, Esther did not seem to be doing so well.
She looked like she had eaten rotten fish that got stuck in her throat. Now, she was unable to gulp it down or spit it out.
In just a few words, Ella had hit all of Esther’s sore spots without much effort. Brother-in-law! Tolerates you because of me! Trouble!
And then the arm hooking... Esther’s fingers curled into fists under her sleeves. Wasn’t Adrian a germaphobe? How could he hold that hand covered in soot and dirt when it was obviously dirtying his expensive shirt?
’’I... I see. I...’’ Esther inhaled a deep breath to calm herself down, ’’I understand, sis,’’ she spoke in a meek voice that made it look like she was being bullied.
