Not just her personality, Ella’s figure was changing too.
It had been months. The oversized hoodies and pants hid it well, but when she wore a fitted night suit, Esther could see it.
Her face glowed differently now. The softness around her cheeks had receded, and her features peeked through.
Even her body looked slimmer, still heavy to an outsider, but Esther, who had been watching closely could see the shift.
But how? Ella had eaten all the junk garbage that Esther got for her all this time, despite denying it in the name of diet. Unless—
She was pretending to eat them.
A cold glint flickered in Esther’s eyes.
Ella did not know when she dozed off but during the wee hours, she heard some rustling noise.
Silver glinted in her eyes and the brush of a cold metal against her forehead froze her.
Esther knocked the gun tighter against her forehead.
Ella’s chest rose, ’’No...’’ Her voice came out just as hoarse as it had been after her vocal cords got damaged in her previous life, "No..."
’’If you die now, all my troubles will end..."
A chilling smile curved up her lips as she pulled the trigger.
Bang.
Her eyes flew open.
She was drenched. Shaking. Breathing hard like she’d sprinted a mile.
Beside her, Esther lay fast asleep.
Ella laid on the bed for a few minutes, blankly staring at the ceiling before she got out of the bed and walked to her study table.
As Ella sat on the chair, she could not see her legs in the darkness. A chill crept down her spine and she hurriedly pulled her legs up, crossing them on the chair.
She grabbed her phone and with trembling fingers, she tapped on a caller ID.
...
In the main mansion.
"How are you feeling right now?"
The room was enshrouded in darkness. At a little distance away, there were some dim lights.
On the king-sized bed, a man laid in the middle, his eyes open, his face impassive.
"If you are thinking about something, you can talk to me about it. We can navigate through your thoughts together,’’ Ronan spoke slowly,"Or if you have no worries, we can work on your breathing pattern.’’
There was no response from the man lying on the bed. He laid there impassively, with his eyes open.
Ronan’s lips twitched, ever so slightly, "How have you been sleeping lately?"
"Just fine."
"Adrian, you can’t be sleeping once in three days and call it pretty fine. Your body just gives up after a couple of days when you go without food and sleep and you collapse. You tell yourself and me it is sleep, it is not!" Even though Ronan patiently spoke, he felt like ripping his hair off.
He was Adrian’s personal doctor. Every change in Adrian’s health needed to be monitored by him.
Yet, the guy sent him to deal with the miscellaneous tasks of the side branch as if his own health was an insignificant matter.
After Ronan spoke, there was no response from Adrian.
His beautiful lashes fluttered once before his eyes lazily shifted to the window. He looked lazy and bored, and absolutely uninterested in indulging a certain doctor with a reply.
Ronan inhaled a deep breath, "How about this? We can try a new way—’
’Ding’
Adrian’s phone that laid on the bedside table buzzed.
Within a beat, Adrian’s long hand moved as he grabbed the phone.
The moment he glanced at his phone, Ronan could see all his attention that was non-existent before got directed towards it.
"You can leave," Adrian did not even look at Ronan.
