"Was she... angry?" Adrian asked.
Ji Yan was startled by the weird nature of the question. When had his second master paused to reflect upon the feelings of other people? Despite caring, he would not stop to reflect upon what others felt or thought.
Even for Ella, at most he would know that she is angry and then he would go on a rage fest too.
So, this... was something entirely new.
Ji Yan immediately lowered his head at the opportunity, "Miss Yu did not seem angry at your refusal to let her go home. But... Second Master’s relationship with Miss Yu has been flourishing by leaps and downs. Any obstacle now might give birth to a rift..."
’Bam’
Ji Yan’s words were yet to finish when Adrian shot to his feet and in a few large strides, he was out of the office.
Ji Yan heaved a relieved sigh and chased after him.
On the way to Eve Mansion, Adrian pulled out his phone and tapped on Ella’s number. Seeing that there was no new message from her, he tugged at the bar a few more times until the phone auto-locked itself, "Defected."
Ji Yan dabbed his custom handkerchief on his face. Out of the fear of being smashed in the face by a phone, he barely held himself from saying that the phone was one of the latest ones out there.
"Stop," Adrian’s cold voice cut through the silence in the car.
’Screech’
The black sedan came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road, "Second Master?" Ji Yan turned to look at the man, only to realize that he had already alighted the car.
Ji Yan shivered and hurriedly alighted the car, chasing after the man who was crossing the road.
With one hand tucked inside his pocket, Adrian crossed the road. His steps came to a halt only when he reached the food stalls on the street.
"Oh my god! Who is that?"
"A model?"
"Are you crazy? He would be an A-lister if he was a model but I don’t remember seeing anyone as such!"
"He is so tall, ah..."
"OH! OH! He turned! He turned in this way. Did you see his face...."
"So gorgeous..."
But despite the blatant admiration, nobody dared to take a step closer to Adrian. And they were further intimidated by Ji Yan who scanned the place with a cold gaze.
On the other side, the sharp scent of pepper oil and garlic wafted through the air as Adrian stopped in front of a street food stall, dressed in his crisp black tailored suit, looking like he had no business being anywhere near a food cart.
He surveyed the tiny folding table, the dented aluminum pots bubbling with fiery red broth, and the swarm of plastic stools like it was a battlefield.
"Yo, bro! Want something spicy?" the vendor asked, wiping his hands on his apron.
Adrian’s eyes narrowed. "Everything."
As the vendor stood there jaw-slacked, Adrian pointed at the entire display. "Pack it."
The vendor blinked. "All of it?"
Adrian didn’t answer. He took out his wallet and with all the solemnity of a man paying for international weapons, offered his black card.
Ji Yan, who had just reached the stall: "_"
The vendor: "_"
The vendor gulped softly, looking between the card and then Adrian like he’d just been asked to process interplanetary currency. "...You got cash?" he asked cautiously.
Adrian frowned. "This isn’t sufficient?"
The vendor sweated, having never seen a black card before in his life, "It... It seems sufficient to buy my entire stall, boss."
Adrian looked genuinely confused. "How much is this food?"
"Like... twenty bucks? Thirty, if you want the extra crayfish."
Adrian paused. "For all of it?"
The vendor nodded, trying not to laugh when he saw the look of bewilderment crossing Adrian’s face. "Yeah. That includes skewers, crawfish, spicy fried buns, and sweet tofu pudding too."
Meanwhile, Adrian stood there unbothered as he watched the food being packed, one by one. She would like it.
