If the Second Master had come to know about this....
Bertha’s hands trembled at the mere thought. The Second Master was a man of few words, but his silence often carried more weight than fury. And betrayal? That was the one thing he never forgave.
She swallowed hard, forcing herself to stay composed, ’’Miss Yu, I do not know how to thank you enough for today. This...’’
Meanwhile, Ella leaned back slightly, her fingers tapping idly against the armrest. "You don’t need to look so shaken," she said, her tone unreadable. "I didn’t do this out of kindness."
Bertha lifted her gaze, hesitant.
Ella smiled, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. In my past life, I was blind. I walked alone, unaware of the enemies lurking in the shadows.
Not this time.
She had her own little selfish motives so she did not consider herself deserving of their gratitude.
Since she would be living in the Eve Mansion from now on, it was important for her to have a few connections around here. At least, she could keep track of Adrian’s mood swings and prepare herself accordingly, if not anything else.
Before, she hadn’t thought about it. But after her rebirth, she had considered the possibility that Esther had some connections in the Eve Mansion.
She had initially analyzed who it could be but no matter what, she couldn’t pinpoint a single person.
All these servants were blindly devoted and loyal to Adrian and she had witnessed their loyalty in her previous life.
So, she knew that there was no chance a young girl like Esther could manipulate these people and provoke them into acting against Adrian.
It wasn’t until yesterday when she spotted the young and nervous Rin that a guess formed in her head.
When she asked Bertha to call her daughter over, she was still not completely sure but Rin’s reactions gave her away.
Ella sighed. She was currently not powerful enough to deal with Esther who not only had her backing but she was also the darling daughter of the Yu family, unlike her who was a disgrace.
However for now, since Esther wanted to play this way, Ella would play along.
After all, every dog would have its day.
’Woof woof’
Ella looked down at the puppy and her gaze softened, ’’I thought I would have to do a lot of convincing before he agreed to let me keep this little guy. I never knew he is also fond of them,’’ she mumbled.
Bertha, who was standing by her side patiently in silence, heard her words and opened her mouth to speak. But then, she closed it.
’’What is it?" Ella noticed her expressions.
Bertha sighed and gently revealed, ’’In fact, the second master is not really fond of small animals.’’
’’Hmm? Didn’t he get this one eventually?" Ella believed that a person like Adrian, even if he liked something, he would not outright express it the way he expressed his displeasure with things.
’’It’s because Miss Yu favors it,’’ Bertha smiled, ’’Our Second Master is allergic to strawberries...’’
Huh? Ella remembered while she was making pancakes, she had pushed a strawberry in his mouth with the intention to flatter him.
But the man had eaten it wordlessly.
"He also doesn’t like sweet food so he never eats it since he was young,’’ Bertha continued.
Yet, he finished the pancake I made.
So when she asked him how it was and he replied ’sweet’, he was not being stingy but rather that was all he could muster to describe the pancakes.
She felt like after two lifetimes, she did not know Adrian King as well as she thought she did.
Ella gently stroked the bandaged wound on her thigh from over her skirt, ’’Who bandaged it?"
