"What do you think of the music?" Ella asked.
The soft notes of piano and flute created a very peaceful ambience when they blended with the gentle crashing of waves against the shore.
Adrian propped his forehead on his fingers, glancing at the girl sitting next to him.
She was donned in a soft pink hoodie that seemed to highlight the gentle flush on her cheeks.
As the music subtly intensified, Ella’s face went from displaying an expectant reaction to a sliver of disappointment.
"The music is pleasant," The moment Adrian said that, he watched her face brighten almost instantly.
The way her eyes twinkled put the stars to shame.
"Baby, you know what? Some time ago, I came across this article that said that the flute can help in calming the mind and easing stress... You don’t sleep properly at night so I thought this would make you feel better..."
Ella stopped chattering away when a broad palm was extended in front of her.
She glanced at Adrian, then at his extended hand. And then she placed her palm in his, without any hesitation.
Slender fingers wrapped around her palm and Adrian gave her hand a gentle tug.
The moment Ella got up to her feet, he yanked her towards him.
Ella crashed onto his lap, mouth agape.
It took her a few moments to come back to her senses. In fact, Adrian had the tendency to ’toss her around’ out of nowhere and by now, she should have gotten used to it.
But for some reason, every time he acted this way, she was caught off guard.
Part of the reason was probably because his actions did not match his character.
And another part was how these tiny things made her feel like a pampered Disney Princess... cough... And sometimes she wanted it more than she would like to admit... cough cough cough...
While Ella was floating in the clouds of princess treatment, a de-shelled prawn was presented in front of her mouth.
Who was she to say ’no’ to food? She immediately opened her mouth wide and accepted it.
But as Adrian continued to feed her, Ella felt slightly guilty, "Baby, let me be the one to feed you today instead..."
Adrian frowned, about to turn her down. But when her dainty fingers carefully shifted a spoon towards him, he gulped softly.
And under Ella’s pleading gaze, he opened his mouth.
And that is how, both the people ended up feeding each other. When it was dessert time, Ella was the only person who was focused on the Tiramisu on the table.
Because Adrian’s eyes never left her. His hand that was wrapped around her waist shifted gently, his thumb stroking the soft fabric of her hoodie.
Just as Ella relished in the first heavenly bite of the dessert, she stiffened. Cool lips hovered near her earlobe, gently breathing into the delicate skin.
And before she could come back to her senses, Adrian bit onto her earlobe.
The spoon in Ella’s hand trembled before clashing on the table. And her body stiffened, suddenly covered in gooseflesh.
Her fingers clutched the tablecloth in a strong grip as Adrian licked the spot he just bit.
One of his hands still roamed on her waist while his other hand raised to her head. His fingers dug into her short hair as he turned her face around.
When she saw the look on his face, Ella was bewildered. There seemed to be a frost in his eyes, an unresolved anger burning behind them.
’I thought we wrote off the past grudges and made up already...’
Ella’s thoughts trailed off when Adrian opened his mouth, "Don’t do that again," he said, his voice thick with warning.
"Do... what?" She was a little muddled by his grip on her, the way his fingers innocently roamed across her waist, inside her hair, leaving a trail of fire in its wake.
"Don’t ignore me."
Ella barely regained her senses as she grabbed his collar for support.
She looked at him with determination, "You are too smart. I was worried you would catch onto my plans but I did not mean to ignore you..."
