Chapter 29: I am a phoenix, not a canary

The entire world mocked her to the point even she had issues with her self-image in her past life.

Now, she was no longer that girl with a low self-esteem and she did not feel ugly standing in front of the mirror. Rather, she was more confident than before and the more confident she was, the prettier she felt.

But still, she had to admit that she was fat right now.

Her entire body had swelled up like a rice ball and both her cheeks fluffed up like buns even when she took a sip of water.

Through which kind of rose-tinted glasses did Adrian look at her?

Ella shook her head, ’’See. What do you think of the puppy?" she raised it up in the air.

The puppy that had been dozing off in her arms turned a little alert.

He probably sensed that he was being showcased so he struck a pose to impress Adrian.

The twin bows on his ears plopped and it certainly looked like an adorable yet comical sight.

’’See, ain’t it obedient?" Ella smiled like a proud mother hen, ’’And very very cute?"

Adrian had only briefly lifted his face from her neck. He looked at the puppy, a small frown settled between his brows.

But when he turned to the side, he could see the girl grinning from ear to ear.

Ella’s cheeks were so plump that they bulged like rice balls when she smiled and she had two small dimples but because of her face fat, they were also faintly visible.

So, even her face started hurting as she smiled so wide yet the man’s response never came.

Ella’s smile died a little. Was he regretting taking the puppy in?

She frowned. She would have coaxed her heart if he did that before but after spending so much time with the little creature, she did not want to forsake it.

She regretted bringing him with her to see Adrian today.

What to do now... She even had other things to convince him for...

Suddenly, she froze, feeling a warmth on her face. Ah?

Adrian kissed her cheek again, "Cute, indeed.’’

W-What...

She abruptly turned to look at him. Was this devil king sweet-talking with her just now?

Seeing his stony face, she calmed down a little bit.

It was scary to see him like this. But it was even scarier when he acted out of character.

Clearing her throat, she pressed one fist on the mattress and pushed herself to her feet, ’’Baby, last time we couldn’t finish our discussion but we need to talk properly this time...’’

The air in the room completely changed the moment Ella detached herself from the man.

She inhaled a deep breath and set the puppy free on the floor.

Ella completely acted like she could not see through the gloomy atmosphere.

The fear for this man was ingrained in her body from her previous life. In this life, she has realized many things and changed a few things as well.

Yet, the fear she had for him lingered.

Probably it was his commanding aura, his threatening presence, or the entire man himself.

But while she acknowledged this fear, she wasn’t about to let herself be controlled by it.
