Chapter 6: Fuming Ex

From here on, it was unwise to push his limits any further.

If she showed too much of character development at once, he would think it was her new scheme. If he wasn't thinking of that already.

''I have been reflecting over my past actions in the mansion for the past few days and I came to this realization.''

Ella waited for a while but the man had no special response to her sudden enlightenment.

"What else?"

''Ah?" She blinked dumbly. Did he take her words for real? That easily? ''Nothing... I mean, we can talk over things slowly. I came here today to bring you lunch. And also to ask you if you'd be back for dinner.''

She wasn't again expecting a response.

But then the man replied, ''Mm.''

When she went out of King Empires, Ella felt like she was floating, her mind was a puddle of cottony clouds.

She had come up with schemes, one greater than the other to win this man over. What did he mean by 'mm'? Why did she feel like she had punched cotton?

On her way out, she felt that the gazes she had received before had changed.

At first, she could not figure out why but then she noticed the absence of the receptionist from before.

Ji Yan explained, ''Miss Yu, she has been fired. Don't worry.''

"_" When did I worry? I did not worry at all. Don't overthink.

But then, it was his company. Who he fired and who he didn't was not her business.

When she reached the mansion, the sky was partially dark.

"Ella...''

A voice came from behind, halting her in her tracks.

When Ella turned around, she saw a familiar face walking towards her.

''I was waiting for you yesterday but you didn't come...'' Max walked towards her.

This was her lover in previous life. The man she was engaged to at one point before everything went downhill.

''And then...''
