Ella looked at him from over her shoulders, ’’Let go before you regret it.’’

Max did not even flinch by the threat, his delicately handsome face revealed a hint of suppressed anger.

’’Oh, you are not planning to take my words seriously?"

’’Ella, we have known each other for way too long. You should know that I won’t be intimidated by your empty threats.’’

Ella turned around, ’’Yes, my reflexes are bad and I probably can’t fight you. But do you believe that if you don’t release my hand right now, I will use my free hand and damage your family jewels beyond repair?"

Max’s eyes widened. Those words coming out of her mouth accompanied with her sweet smile sounded awfully vicious.

’’And if your ancestors come to settle scores with me, I will tell them that you started it first.’’

She raised her right hand and made a fist with it.

’’You...’’ Max swung away her hand, a vein twitching on his forehead, ’’Since when did you become so unreasonable?"

Ella crossed her arms in front of her chest lest the guy got handsy pansy again.

Seeing her lack of reaction, Max nodded, ’’Fine. Since you want to talk, let us talk. Where is Ruby?"

Ella arched a brow, ’’In the backyard.’’

Max’s eyes widened, ’’So, you are confessing that you have something to do with her disappearance...?" He glanced in the direction of the Eve Mansions’ backyard.

Ella clicked her tongue.

Realizing that he had been played, Max glared at her, his eyes turning dark, ’’What did you do to her? Ella... I don’t want to believe it but tell me honestly... Is it really you?"

Max clenched his fists, ’’She has disappeared from the university since yesterday. And till now, all the clues I have received lead to you. I don’t want to believe it but you need to clarify things for that.’’

’’What if I am not interested in clarifying anything?"

"Then it means you are confessing to your wrongdoings.’’

Ella sighed, ’’Do I look like I am scared?"

Max’s eyes widened, ’’You... You really dared to do it. I gave you multiple ways out of this situation. I pity you for what you are going through. Even after you...’’

He inhaled a deep breath, ’’Even after you shamelessly slept with him, I was ready to accept you. But you turned me down again and again. I thought you had lost your feelings for me. But it turns out I was wrong all along. You were playing hard-to-get and biding your time..."

’’Delusional.’’

Max was stunned.

’’Even if I did something to Ruby, it would be because she annoys me. Why would it have anything to do with you?"

The man turned his face away from her, exasperation vivid on his face.

Suddenly, he felt a gentle tug on his collar and then his shirt was tugged off.

Max’s body jerked sideways by the sudden impact.

"You... Ella, how can you act so shamelessly out in the open?!" He snapped, pointing his trembling fingers at her. Watching her lean close, he shifted uncomfortable, his heartbeat a little unstable ’’You... You... You... Even if you want to do something, we can...’’

’’You are having an affair.’’

Ella’s words dropped in a cold declaration.

She released the collar of his shirt and stepped back from him, her gaze fixated on the hickeys on his neck.

Max stiffened and immediately pulled his shirt up, ’’Nonsense! These are caused by mosquito.’’

"A mosquito so big... should have managed to digest you by now!" Ella’s eyes narrowed, ’’The night after your engagement, you came here with such hickeys...’’

She had thought it was Ruby.

Never once did she think that other than her and Ruby, there was some other woman involved with Max at this point in time as well.

In her previous life, Max and Ruby got married. Later, Max was involved with many women.

At one point, she got to know that Max and Esther were also fooling around. When Ruby told her that, she’d laughed in her face, telling her that she could never drive a wedge between her and her little sister.
