The person who walked into the office caught Xue Man by surprise. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
It turned out to be Bai Ruoshu.
Xue Man had been through a lot; she knew Bai Ruoshu didn’t come to her studio just because they were alumni.
Bai Ruoshu is ambitious, but she doesn’t show it blatantly.
There’s a lot she feels is beneath her to personally handle.
This was the first time she’d been so proactive.
Xue Man remained calm and said, "What’s the matter?"
Bai Ruoshu glanced at the design drafts tossed on the floor and happened to catch sight of Lin Zhiyi’s design on the desk.
"It seems President Xue has already made up her mind."
"Ruoshu, I know what you’re going to say, but Lin Zhiyi’s situation is special..."
Before Xue Man could finish, Bai Ruoshu interrupted her.
"Is it because she belongs to Third Young Master?"
"You..." Xue Man was taken aback.
"President Xue doesn’t need to know how I found out. You only need to understand, I’m here to help you. Your designs are indeed good, but if you tell Old Mr. Gong that this was designed by Lin Zhiyi, will he accept it?"
Bai Ruoshu spoke decisively.
Clearly, she had planned what to say before entering the office.
Xue Man hesitated in silence.
So many people and things had changed over these three years.
The prosperity of Jing City never waits for anyone.
Bai Ruoshu pressed her hands on her skirt and sat down: "President Xue, this charity gala is very crucial for you. Do you really want to take a risk for Lin Zhiyi?"
"Even though today’s incident has cooled down, it doesn’t change the fact that what she did is unforgivable. Using the work of such a morally corrupt person, even if Old Mr. Gong gives his nod, others won’t bid on it, right? The studio will be affected too."
"I know you want to use her to curry favor with Third Young Master, but given her awkward status, she’ll never truly connect with him."
"Even if Third Young Master lost a wife, his next won’t be any less."
Bai Ruoshu had spoken to this point.
Xue Man understood Bai Ruoshu’s real reason for joining her studio.
She was targeting Gong Chen.
When Lin Zhiyi was still in the studio, Gong Chen and Xue Man had a rather good relationship, with frequent interactions.
Which stirred envy from others.
Bai Ruoshu had set her sights on this.
Rather than starting a studio after returning home and building connections slowly, it was better to leverage Xue Man’s existing network.
Bai Ruoshu observed Xue Man’s prolonged silence and pointed at Lin Zhiyi’s design on the desk.
"It’s indeed well-designed."
Xue Man frowned and asked back, "You want to use her design?"
"Why not? But using and making it serve me instead are vastly different; it depends on how President Xue views it."
"Even if you’re right, Third Young Master won’t let her go now; otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought her back after three years. You might as well forget about it," Xue Man advised.
Bai Ruoshu was completely unfazed by Xue Man’s words.
"Men, isn’t it normal to have someone outside? I heard President Xue’s ex-husband reached out to a studio intern back in the day."
At the mention of her ex-husband, Xue Man’s hands involuntarily clenched tightly, and her gaze hardened.
Bai Ruoshu pretended not to notice and continued, "It’s different being the legal wife; I don’t care for the playthings. No matter how they amuse themselves outside, they’ll ultimately return home."
"Moreover, do you think I can’t beat Lin Zhiyi?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"If she could win, why would Third Young Master marry Sang Ran?"
Xue Man stared blankly at Bai Ruoshu.
Driven by interests, her hand moved from the edge of the table to the signature on the design draft.
Bai Ruoshu smiled and nodded, extremely graceful.
"Thank you, President Xue, I won’t disturb you then."
After she left, Xue Man leaned back against her chair and took a deep breath.
...
Casino.
A man wearing a branded watch was excitedly listening to the sound of rolling dice.
Suddenly, a hand rested on his shoulder.
The man’s gaze fell on his hands.
Fang Jian sighed, pointing at the watch on his own wrist.
"Mine’s high class too, only stars have it. If you like it, beat me. Hehe..."
"Deal the cards."
The man rotated the ring on his thumb.
Fang Jian proudly glanced at his cards, unable to hide his smile.
"Looks like your watch is mine." He revealed his hand, "Straight flush!"
"Oh really?" The man slowly unveiled his cards, "I have a straight flush too, just slightly higher than yours."
Fang Jian looked at the cards in disbelief.
"Impossible!" His eyes darted around, suddenly standing up, "You must have cheated, broke the rules, I won’t accept this!"
"Cheating?" The man’s thumb-ring rotation stopped, "In this life, only one person can cheat me."
With that, the man glanced coldly.
The bodyguard behind Fang Jian forced him onto the table.
"Let me go!"
The man leaned back against his chair and laughed disdainfully, "You bet, you pay. I’ll collect now."
Fang Jian sensed danger, quickly said, "Isn’t it just a lousy watch? Take it! Let me go!"
"I wasn’t referring to the watch."
"What do you mean? What do you want to do... ah!"
A cold flash crossed Fang Jian’s sight, as a refined looking man next to him chopped off his index finger without blinking.
"Next time it won’t be just a finger, tell Fang Lai’er to resolve her own mess."
The man glanced at his watch, continued, "I’ll give her one day."
Finishing, the man left composedly, even answering a call on his way.
"On my way back, what do you want to eat? I’ll bring it."
His voice was so mellow and thick, unlike the King Yan at the gambling table.
