Silence. Awkward and confusing stretched all over the clearing. The man slowly turned to look at Killian, ignoring the snarling Dominic, who was trying to reach Inez. "What did you say?"
"I said that the culprit sits in my car," repeated Killian. "You should have waited until I was done dealing with the mission, just like Seth asked you to, Noah, not ignore the entire thing and act like the lycans cannot do shit."
Noah went pale. He was pale to begin with, but now he looked even paler. After hearing Killian’s words, there was a thin sheen of sweat covering. The man who was looking unflappable, impressive when he came first, was now scared out of his mind.
"You could have told us that before!" Mister Jones spluttered. His voice rose an octave as he whipped his head toward Killian, all worries forgotten. "Why did you–why didn’t you tell me this before?" His heart was now set on fire as he thought about the mess he had to clean up. The death of these guards, the misalignment of the evidence and the ignorance of the clues. He would have a field day after this was known to Seth.
"I did tell you to listen." Killian glanced at the man without any expression on his face. He reached forward and scooped Inez off the ground before saying to Noah, "Now if you will excuse me—"
"Put her down."
Before Killian could take another step, Dominic stepped forward. His eyes flashed wolf. "Put her the fuck down." He commanded even though he knew that no one was going to listen.
"No, I won’t," Killian refused with a smile. One that didn’t reach his eyes. "Now if you will, please..."
The two men stared at one another; neither of them wanted to back off, and Inez could feel her breathing turn a bit stagnated due to the oppressive pressure. Just as she thought that she was going to faint then and there—
"I told you I am sorry!"
A childish voice broke through the clearing, and everyone turned to look at the little girl, and beside her was–
"Sweetie, I am back." Tracy’s strawberry hair caught the moonlight as she sauntered to the clearing while dragging the little girl by her ear. She glanced at Killian and then turned to look at Dominic. Her eyes flickered as she raised her hand and smacked the young girl on the back of her head. "So you caused trouble even after I caught you?"
"No, I didn’t!" The young girl whined, but upon being glared at, she lowered her head and whimpered, "Maybe I did."
