Once Anastasia understood what had happened next, she lost all interest in Lauren.
She spent a while keeping Harrison company, then turned to see Marcus hobbling enthusiastically around the room on his crutches, as if he hadn’t had legs in centuries.
When Marcus noticed her watching, he lit up with gratitude and impatience. “Anastasia, when will I finally be back to normal?”
Anastasia glanced at the screenshot on her phone—a certain someone had once promised to eat a shoe on livestream if she managed to heal Marcus. Smirking mischievously, she replied, “If you keep up with my acupuncture sessions, you’ll be walking without those crutches in about ten days.”
For a split second, Marcus’s handsome face went stiff, a sharp sense of impending doom prickling at his instincts—like some villain had it out for him.
But come on, he thought, this was Rosewood Manor. No safer place in the world! Who could possibly want to hurt him here?
Must be his imagination.
He shook off the feeling and resumed his determined laps around the room, eager to get back on his feet.
Ten days, and he’d finally ditch these crutches. He could hardly wait!
He said as much out loud, and Anastasia tucked her phone away, giving a slow, almost ominous smile. “Believe me, I’m looking forward to it, too.”
Just then, Harrison finished his phone call and walked over. In an instant, he saw the glint of mischief in Anastasia’s eyes.
He only raised an eyebrow, giving his friend a meaningful look.
As the saying goes, sometimes trouble is just a blessing in disguise. Marcus must have done something to deserve his, and Harrison wasn’t about to interfere.
The next day.
Anastasia headed off to teach at Global Harmony Medical Institute.
As her car pulled up to the entrance, she happened to spot another vehicle arriving across the street.
Her eyes narrowed—it was the Brennan family’s car.
