“So, you must be Anastasia?” Mr. Lockwood’s tone softened instantly as she looked Anastasia up and down. Seeing the girl’s calm composure and clear eyes, Mr. Lockwood gave a satisfied nod.
“That’s right. Good morning, Dean,” Anastasia replied politely, straightening up from where she’d been leaning against the desk.
She’d already heard of Mr. Lockwood’s reputation—upright, no-nonsense, and a little intimidating—and had always respected her from afar. Now, seeing the Dean stand up for her so decisively, cutting down Mr. Evert and his supporters in just a few sentences, Anastasia’s admiration only grew.
“Excellent, I can tell you’re a good kid.” Mr. Lockwood smiled approvingly.
This obvious fondness for Anastasia made Lauren anxious. She couldn’t understand it—wasn’t Mr. Lockwood famous for being strict and intolerant of any nonsense? Why was she suddenly so warm toward Anastasia, who’d supposedly cheated her way in?
Lauren had already made up her mind: she wanted Anastasia out of the Global Harmony Medical Institute. She shot Erin a meaningful glance, signaling her to speak up.
Mr. Lockwood clearly wasn’t pleased with Lauren’s earlier outburst, so she didn’t dare say anything more. Erin caught the hint and immediately stood up. “Dean, are you saying we’re supposed to work with someone who cheated her way in? I refuse to accept that!”
As soon as Erin spoke, the others quickly chimed in, their expressions indignant.
Everyone here had fought tooth and nail to get into Global Harmony Medical Institute. They prided themselves on their talent and considered the school’s name a badge of honor. The thought that an impostor had made her way in was unbearable.
Prideful as they were, none of them could swallow their anger.
Anastasia lifted her gaze, meeting Erin’s eyes, and was about to speak when Mr. Lockwood cut in first.
“And who told you Anastasia cheated her way in?”
“She got a perfect score! Isn’t that obvious?” someone retorted, their voice filled with resentment.
Anastasia replied coolly, “So, just because I got a perfect score, I must have cheated? Seriously? Are you really that bitter?”
