Being the heir to the Global Harmony Medical Institute isn’t just about skill or talent—character and integrity matter just as much.
And now, with someone as brilliant—no, even more brilliant—than Lauren appearing on the scene, namely Anastasia, perhaps it’s best to wait and see how things unfold.
Anastasia caught every reaction in the room, her lips curving ever so slightly in a barely noticeable smile.
Suddenly, she spoke up. “Dean Lockwood, thank you for what you did today. If you hadn’t arrived in time, I might have been forced to withdraw from the Institute.”
—Of course, that wasn’t true. There was no way she would simply let Lauren get her way. Even if Dean Lockwood hadn’t shown up, she had other means to handle Lauren.
But her gratitude toward Dean Lockwood was genuine. The woman was highly respected, fiercely fair, and had gone out of her way to protect her. Anastasia truly admired and appreciated her.
With that in mind, she continued, “But I do have a question, Dean. Is there really a rule at this Institute that says if someone doesn’t like you, they can manipulate others, get them to vote, and just kick you out? Does Global Harmony Medical Institute really allow that?”
Lauren’s head jerked up.
Her resentment hadn’t faded yet, but now Anastasia was pressing her further, refusing to let things go!
Anastasia looked at her and smiled—a cool, challenging smile that sent a chill down Lauren’s spine.
If you come after me, you’d better be ready for the consequences. Did you really think you could just walk away after your plan failed?
Lauren couldn’t explain it, but dread crept into her chest.
Dean Lockwood frowned at Anastasia’s question, her displeasure clearly aimed at Lauren and Mr. Evert.
Her voice was sharp as she replied, “There has never been such a rule at Global Harmony Medical Institute!”
She glanced at Lauren. “In the past, you seemed prudent and fair in your work. That’s why we gave you the authority to act as an assistant, so you could help manage things when the other deans and I were away.”
