Let Anastasia go back? No way!
Juliet realized now just how much she’d overlooked in the past. She glanced instinctively at Lauren, caught the flicker of emotion on her face, and thought, Just as I suspected.
If Lauren were truly generous and kind-hearted, she wouldn’t be so against Anastasia returning to the Brennan family, would she? After all those years of taking what was rightfully Anastasia’s, shouldn’t she feel at least a little guilty?
But the way Lauren reacted—it was clear she was terrified at the thought of Anastasia coming back.
Juliet studied her for a few seconds, then finally looked away.
Lauren, lost in her own chaotic thoughts, didn’t even notice.
Anastasia was momentarily stunned by the old lady’s suggestion. Her heart felt both tender and sore, but when she caught a glimpse of Winni’s dark expression, she managed a small smile and shook her head.
“No, Grandma, you probably don’t know yet, do you? I’m a married woman now—I have to live with my husband, otherwise he’ll be lonely!”
She turned and called out, “Honey!”
Harrison stepped forward. He’d never liked the Brennans, but for Ana—who cared so deeply for him—and for this grandmother who obviously adored her, his expression softened.
When Anastasia said, “Grandma, this is Harrison,” the old lady finally turned her attention to him.
Harrison was striking—impeccably handsome and confident, the sort of man who left a lasting impression. The air of authority around him was a bit intimidating, but there was no denying his presence.
The old lady had heard rumors about Mr. Harrison Lancaster while inquiring after her granddaughter, and she’d worried. But when she saw him holding Ana’s hand, the way he looked at her—gentle, devoted, utterly sincere—she realized there was nothing to fear. This was a man who had found his match; all that strength, now softened for the woman he loved.
