Chapter 407
The system had abandoned her. Now, the Bennett Family and Vincent looked at her with nothing but hatred. Any trust they’d ever had in her was gone for good. She was done for. Completely and utterly doomed.
No. It wasn’t over for her yet. Lydia suddenly turned her gaze to Emily. She thought, ‘Emily was the protagonist of this world. If Emily died, would that mean I finally had a shot?’
The thought flashed through Lydia’s mind like a thorn embedding itself deep in her heart. Without further thinking, she snatched up a fork from the table and charged straight at Emily.
“Go to hell, bitch!” Lydia screamed.
Lydia’s sudden outburst caught everyone off guard. Emily instinctively darted back quickly.
Although everyone else was trying to hold Lydia back, Emily didn’t trust them. She dodged Lydia’s attack all on her own, ready to fight back at any second. But nobody gave her the chance to fight back.
Gale and Emma sustained several cuts and scratches while trying to stop the crazed Lydia, but even then, they couldn’t keep her from reaching Emily.
Lucas darted in front of Emily, raising his arm to block Lydia’s attack. The sharp fork plunged straight into his wrist. For a racecar driver, that hand was as good as finished.
But with everything happening at once, no one had time to worry about Lucas’s injury. The others rushed in, trying to hold Lydia back.
But Lydia, with nothing left to lose, was hell-bent on taking Emily down with her. She exploded with a wild, desperate strength that no one could contain.
Amid the chaos, Vincent’s eyes landed on a stone statue in the corner. Without thinking, he picked up the statue and smashed it straight at the crazed Lydia.
Things had gone unexpectedly smoothly for Emily today. She didn’t even have time to use any of her secret plans.
Emily had planned to use her backup moves later, but she never expected that by that very afternoon, the news would arrive that Lydia had died despite emergency treatment, and Vincent had been taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Vincent and Lydia had been Cloudridge’s most famous couple for years. These things had happened now, and the whole
city was in an uproar.
The Shaw and Bennett families were thus thrust into the spotlight, becoming the focus of everyone’s attention, with only Emily remaining uninvolved. ‘
Maybe it was because they did feel guilty about what happened to Emily, no one brought up Emily’s name at all. But they all came to Emily to apologize and ask for her forgiveness.
