CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
KAIA’S POV
Mia had fallen asleep a few minutes ago. I sat beside her, watching her as she slept. My mind kept going back to everything she told us earlier. Her words were still fresh, repeating in my head over and over
As I sat there thinking and trying to figure out what could have caused the attack, I started to feel a little dizzy. At first, I didn’t think it was a big deal. It wasn’t anything serious–just a light feeling, like my head was floating a bit. I rubbed my forehead and let out a quiet sigh.
1 guess that stress everyone keeps talking about finally caught up with me after all,” I muttered under my breath, brushing it off.
But the dizzy feeling didn’t go away. Rather, it slowly got worse as the minutes passed. Soon, my arms and legs started to feel heavy, and it became harder to keep my eyes open. My body felt like it was giving up, and I slowly leaned forward, resting my head on the bed beside Mia.
The bedspread felt warm under my cheek, and I couldn’t help but wonder if my body was heating up. I could hear Mia’s soft breathing, and for some strange reason, it sounded more like a lullaby than just the sound of someone breathing. The next thing I knew, I was slowly dozing off–and before I even realized it, I was fast asleep.
I could almost feel myself literally sinking into the dream, and somehow I knew exactly what it was. I knew it was a dream. I was still in the hospital room, still sitting beside Mia with my head on the bed. But something felt strange. Everything was too quiet. Suddenly it was night instead of day. The air was different, and I kept having this really weird and bad feeling, like something was about to happen.
I heard a creaking sound from the window, and I turned toward it just in time to see it creak open slowly, making a long, soft sound that made my skin crawl.
Somehow, I just knew it wasn’t normal.
Maybe it was the strange sounds coming from outside the window.
Or maybe it was the foul smell that poured into the room as soon as the window opened.
But somehow, I just knew something was terribly wrong.
I wanted to move. I wanted to speak. I wanted to go over there and check it out at the very least–to see what was out there, if nothing else.
But I couldn’t do anything. I was frozen.
I just sat there watching
Then I saw someone start to climb in through the window, I couldn’t see their face clearly, but I was sure it was a woman. Her face was hidden, blurry, like smoke was covering it. She moved slowly and carefully. almost as if she were afraid someone might hear her.
Something about the way she walked was filled with fear–like she was running or hiding from someone. Or maybe she was afraid of getting caught.
My heart was pounding, even in the dream. I tried harder to look at her face, but still, I couldn’t see much. All I

was able to see was the color of her hair. Red
I tried to wake up, but it was useless. My body wasn’t working. It was like I had no control over it
I watched as the woman looked around, as if trying to find somewhere to hide. Then she ran to the far corner of the room and hid, squatting and making herself as small as possible.
Then, as if she could sense my presence, she stilled–her entire formn tensing up. Slowly, she turned her head
In my direction.
And then suddenly, the scene faded, and I gasped, sitting up in bed.
I was back in the real world. I looked around, and everything looked normal. Sunlight was still shining through the window. Mia was still sleeping, just like before. Nothing had changed. But my heart was racing. and I felt strange.
What was that dream? Why would I dream something like that in the middle of the day?
I don’t think I even slept that deeply.
I
I rubbed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to shake off the feeling.
That’s when I heard the doorknob turning.
The door opened, and Dr. Grayson walked in, holding a clipboard. Silver came in right behind him.
I sat up straighter, trying to focus, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the dream. Something about it didn’t feel like just a dream.
Silver walked over to take a seat in the chair while Dr. Grayson went to check Mia again.
I was barely aware of everything going on in the room, as my thoughts remained on the dream. I was quiet- and for some reason, so was Silver.
Then, a small voice broke the silence.
“They had symbols,” Mia whispered as she stirred awake.
I turned sharply toward her. “What?”
She opened her eyes, blinking a few times before she spoke again. “The ones who attacked me. They had symbols. I remember now. They wore black clothing and masks. But on their necks, there were symbols and marks. I remember one of them clearly.”
I stood up and grabbed a notepad from the nearby counter and handed her a pen. “Can you draw it?”
She nodded. Her fingers trembled slightly as she drew on the notepad–a simple circle, with an upside–down triangle inside, and a jagged line cutting through both shapes.
Silver leaned forward, staring at it, and then his brows furrowed. “That… looks familiar. I think.”
My eyes shot to his in surprise. “You’ve seen it before?”
“I don’t know,” he muttered. “It just… it does something to my head. Like a memory that’s there bu…on’t
come out. There’s something familiar about it, even though I can’t quite place my finger on it.”
I nodded. “Yeah, I don’t like this,” I said with a sigh. “I don’t like this one bit. I think we should try and find out exactly what this thing is before whatever this is escalates into something else.”
CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
Dr. Grayson hummed, still checking Mia’s chart. “Whatever you kids are planning,” he said without looking up. “make sure it doesn’t involve Mia. She needs at least two days of rest before she’s allowed out of this room-
or into this craziness, for that matter.”
I nodded in understanding. “Yeah, don’t worry about that. She’s not going anywhere,” I promised. “But this symbol could be important. It might lead us to the people who did this.”
Dr. Grayson nodded grimly. “Be careful, Kala, I can’t shake the feeling that whatever this is, it’s bigger than just a random attack. Don’t go throwing yourself into danger without thinking of the consequences. You have
to be careful.”
I knew he was right. Deep down, I could feel it too. And the fact that Silver seems to recognize this symbol- even though he isn’t even from here…. there was no way this was a random coincidence.
“Don’t worry, Doc. I’ll be careful. I promise,” I said with a genuine smile before turning to Silver. “You up for some investigation?” I asked with a smirk.
He smirked. “Sure, why not.”
As Silver and I left the room, I folded the paper with the symbol and tucked it into my jacket pocket. We walked down the hall in silence, passing nurses and pack members who nodded or glanced away.
When we stepped outside the building, I turned to him. “I want us to check out somewhere. I have a feeling it
might have the answers we seek.”
Silver raised a brow. “Where?”
“Somewhere I’ve become well acquainted with over the years. But if you’re afraid of a little mystery, then oh well–I guess that’s fine. I’ll just do it myself then,” I said, arching my brow at him in a silent challenge.
He hesitated for a moment, then nodded with a chuckle. “Lead the way, Princess.”
I frowned at the title. “Princess? Princess who?”
Silver chuckled. “Don’t worry. The title doesn’t take away from your badass. I meant WARRIOR princess.”
My frown deepened, and I opened my mouth to speak–but then nothing came out. For some reason, I couldn’t seem to find any words to respond. So I just gave up, shaking my head as I walked away.
I could hear Silver chuckling as he followed behind me, and I rolled my eyes. Asshole.
“So, Princess,” Silver called, emphasizing the word Princess as he fell into step beside me, “I couldn’t help but notice you looked a bit off when Doc and I first walked into the room. Something wrong?”
My steps faltered as he asked the question, and I swallowed.
Yeah, about that…
How am I supposed to explain to anyone about the dream I had when I don’t even know what it means
myself?
What am I supposed to tell him? That I saw some strange woman climb into the room throug
window?
Even now, I still got chills just thinking about it.
There was something really strange about the whole dream.
And that woman…
