Save the Tears for Someone Who Cares novel Chapter 16

hapter 16

The realization shocked Eugene deeply.

He looked as if he was about to go insane as he bellowed, “Where’s Jacklyn? Why is she not in the room?”

“I was mowing the lawn in the backyard just now, Mr. Lloyd. I have no idea what happened.”

“I was cleaning the kitchen. I hadn’t noticed where Mrs. Lloyd went.”

“I was in the yard. I hadn’t seen Mrs. Lloyd today.”

One by one, the maids explained to Eugene what they were doing earlier. Yet, none of them seemed to know where Jacklyn was. Eugene was boiling with rage as he listened to them.

“I didn’t spend so much money hiring all of you just to have you focus solely on your tasks! The lady of the house is missing. Yet, none of you had taken notice of that! What’s the use of me keeping any of you around, then?” Eugene kept shouting at the maids to vent his anger.

Then, he issued an order and gave them one last warning, “Start looking for Jacklyn right now! I’m going to fire everyone if none of you manage to find her today!”

The air inside the huge manor suddenly felt thick and stuffy because of Eugene’s intimidating presence. The maids felt a tingle in their scalps, as they could tell Eugene was serious about his threat. They quickly responded in acknowledgment.

“I’ve been hearing a lot of noise since earlier. Are you having a meeting right now?” a female voice called out from upstairs.

Eugene turned his gaze toward the voice.

Jacklyn was in her pajamas as she came out of the guest room. She gave a little stretch, looking as though she had just woken from her slumber.

The sight of her eased Eugene’s nerves, which were nearly stretched to breaking point.

His eyes lit up. He darted upstairs and threw his arms around Jacklyn.

“I couldn’t find you just now. All of your things in our room have gone missing, too. I was so anxious and worried. I was so afraid that you had left me. Where were you?”

Jacklyn felt like throwing up when she detected a distinct, familiar smell of perfume coming from Eugene. Penelope liked using perfumes that had a strong scent.

She tried to squirm free from Eugene’s embrace. Unfortunately, he was too strong. “I haven’t gone anywhere.”

She asked, “Why were you so anxious?”

Eugene replied in a tender yet shaky voice, “I was just really worried about you. Jackie, where did you move your things to?”

Jacklyn nearly suffocated with how tightly Eugene was holding her. She was holding her breath at that point. “You should let go of me first. You’re making it hard for me to breathe.”

Eugene finally realized he was using too much force. He hurriedly let go of Jacklyn. “I’m sorry. It’s my bad.”

Eugene went to work as usual the next day. While he was reading a document displayed on the computer screen, he heard the sound of someone knocking on the door.

“Come in.”

“Gene…”

Eugene lost his focus the instant he heard that sweet female’s voice. He immediately dropped what he was doing and led Penelope to the couch while holding her arm.

When she was finally seated, Eugene scolded her, “Why did you come here when you should be resting at home? People might see us here.”

Eugene wanted to avoid any instances that might give room to others to gossip about them. He could not risk letting the public find out about his and Penelope’s relationship, after all.

Penelope replied bashfully, “I missed you terribly, so I decided to come and see you.”

Despite having said that, she was burning with spite and indignation inwardly. She could not understand why she was not allowed to visit Eugene’s company when Jacklyn could.

Penelope changed the topic by bringing up another issue. “By the way, have you obtained the gemstone necklace?”

“Not yet.” Eugene’s expression grew tense.

Penelope tightened her jaw. She felt a little disappointed. It seemed like she would have to do something to give Eugene a little nudge since he had not found his resolve.
