Chapter 236 Five minutes
Five minutes later, both set down their glasses almost simultaneously.
“Cheval Blanc 1947, Lafite 1869, Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992, Lafite 1787, Margaux 1787, Romanee–Conti 1990, Margaux 2009,” Darrell rattled off, casting a challenging glance at Sarah. “Now, bark! Or perhaps you’d like Renee’s assistance.”
Kristopher squinted his eyes.
Barking?
How was Darrell so foolishly confident that he had won the game?
Sarah arched her eyebrows, her words deliberate. “Cheval Blanc 1947, Lafite 1787, Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992, Lafite 1869, Margaux 1787, Romanee–Conti 1990, Margaux 2009.”
Their responses in the years they guessed for the two Lafite vintages were inverted.
The host announced, “Sarah takes the win!”
“How…how is that possible?” Darrell’s face darkened. He took another sip from his two glasses. His complexion
turned ashen then.
With a mischievous grin, Renee taunted, “Mr. Vargas, can’t even take down an amateur like Sarah? You might as well donate that tongue of yours after all that barking.”
Little did the crowd know, that when Sarah embarked on her wine–tasting journey, Darrell was still guzzling
beer on street corners.
Darrell’s face flushed with rage, his eyes ablaze as he stared at the live camera, rendered speechless.
“Miss Hudson, we’re all friends here. Just a little banter. No need to take it so seriously,” Vivian, attempting to play mediator, stepped in. “With so many eyes on us, it’s not a good look.”
With an enigmatic smile, Renee cast her gaze downward, twirling a lock of hair around her finger.
Sarah chuckled, “Miss Lambert, you’re quite intriguing. I’m the star here, yet you seem fixated on Renee. Do you have something against her, or is it me you’re underestimating?”
Vivian’s smile faltered at Sarah’s words. “Miss Curtis, I didn’t mean…”
“What you meant doesn’t matter if you won’t back Mr. Vargas,” Sarah cut in, gesturing for Darrell to begin. “Mr. Vargas, the stage is yours!”
Tobias counted himself lucky for keeping quiet earlier.
“Goodness me! Talk about drama! It’s riveting!”
“Did you see Renee’s face just now? Her contempt revealed she didn’t see herself as Vivian’s friend. Haha!”
“The show from the first two seasons was rather dull. Now, it’s a must–watch!”

“Vivian had a point. Renee and Sarah crossed a line.”
“And if Sarah loses? What will Vivian say then? Darrell started this, mentioning Renee’s ex–boyfriend intentionally. Why would you back Darrell?”
“They definitely have history. Personal grudges, for sure.”
“And what was Darrell hinting at about Renee and his friend? Any juicy gossip? Drop it in my inbox! Immediately!”
“Renee’s hubby won’t be pleased…I bet.”
“Woof!” Darrell reluctantly barked.
Suddenly, Kristopher, silent till then, raised an eyebrow.
The director saw a lifeline and grabbed it, eager to change tack.
“Kristopher, any thoughts?” the host jumped in, steering the conversation.
Kristopher nodded. “Saw Mr. Vargas mouthing off, but couldn’t catch a word.”
Darrell’s heart sank.
The crew panicked.
He’d barked, for heaven’s sake!
“Mr. Vargas, give it another go. We didn’t catch that,” Kristopher pressed.
Renee couldn’t stifle her laughter. Who knew the suave Kristopher had such cunning up his sleeve?
“I couldn’t hear it either,” Renee remarked.
“Woof, woof, woof!” Overwhelmed with embarrassment, Darrell resorted to barking, shooting Kristopher a glare full of anger.
Throughout the next two hours of the live stream, Darrell was on the lookout for a chance to get back at Sarah, Renee, and Kristopher, yet he found no opening.
Vivian, on her part, remained exceptionally courteous.
She was never one to stir trouble herself.
After the initial conflict, the ensuing silent confrontation felt oddly calm.
The moment the broadcast ended, Darrell went straight to Renee and Sarah.
“Hey! Don’t do anything rash!”
Darrell looked like he was going to fight, which made the crew of the program very nervous.
But when he finally approached them, all he did was spit out a threatening, “You’ll see!”

Then he angrily stormed off.
Renee and Sarah couldn’t help but scoff.
To them, Darrell was nothing but a toothless, barking dog, too aware of his own limitations to take them on.
Vivian shot a look at Renee, Sarah, and Kristopher before hurrying after Darrell.
“Mr. Vargas, please, calm down. Renee’s acquainted with the butler Garfield. There’s no need for any trouble here with her,” she advised.
Darrell understood what she meant.
Right, once they were off this island, he’d have the Vargas family’s backing. What did Renee and Sarah have? He could do whatever he wanted to them!
Yet, the thought of leaving Renee and Sarah unchallenged on the island gnawed at him!
And Kristopher, an unexpected pest, only added to his frustration!
The show was akin to a vacation opportunity for the guests.
Its team filmed only in the morning, leaving the afternoon as leisure time for them.
In no time at all, Workplace Diary became a hot topic beyond its usual audience.
