Meanwhile, at the Kalen family residence, when the report came in, the faces of everyone in the Kalen family darkened.

Silas let out a cold laugh. “Didn’t I tell you she was fleeing out of guilt? You all refused to believe me. Look at her now-still running for her life, fighting to the bitter end.”

Richard, however, disagreed. “Sharon would never do such a thing. There must be some misunderstanding. Scott, Silas, you may bring her back, but you are not to harm her in any

way.”

“Dad, don’t worry,” Scott replied evenly. “No matter what’s happened, she’s still our sister. We won’t lay a hand on her.” 1

Only then did Richard’s expression ease.

Not long after, Scott’s phone rang again.

On the other end, his assistant’s voice was flustered, nearly frantic.

“Sir, Miss McKinzie’s car not only outran us, it’s also taken out many of our vehicles. Our

losses are severe…

A disbelieving smile tugged at Scott’s lips.

“Are you telling me that with so many people, you still can’t handle one car?”

Since Sharon hadn’t yet left Marcentine, he thought, no matter how she struggled, she wouldn’t escape. Bringing her back should have been child’s play.

The assistant’s tone trembled. “But, Sir, she is your sister. We couldn’t bring ourselves to

use deadly force. And… the driver’s skills are extraordinary. Without a blockade in place, we

can’t even get close.”

Scott’s eyes turned cold. “If you can’t catch up, then set up roadblocks. Do I really need to teach you something that simple?”

The assistant’s voice cracked, verging on tears. “Their vehicle seems to have been specially modified. They ram through every blockade. We can’t stop them at all. And they’re weaving through the city center. There are too many civilian cars. We can’t even lay down spike strips.”

Marcentine was home to several powerful families; the Kalen family wasn’t the only one. Setting up blockades on public roads was already pushing boundaries-deploying spike strips would be crossing the line completely.

Disrupting the wrong person’s business could easily spark a feud.

Scott knew that perfectly well. His face remained tense, but he held his tongue.

As long as Sharon was still in Marcentine, she would be caught eventually. There was no need to turn the entire city upside down.

After a moment of silence, he finally said, “Send more people. Keep tailing them. Corner

them into an area we can control.”

An hour passed. Everyone grew restless, but Sharon was still nowhere to be found. 1

Silas couldn’t help but snap, “Scott, it’s been so long. Why is there still no news?”

Scott’s brows furrowed. Just as he was about to call and demand an update, his phone rang

again.
