Chapter 1035
Everyone froze.
Scott and Victoria exchanged stunned looks.
Victoria whispered, “Sharon has been in Marcentine this whole time and hasn’t returned to Zachemaine. Could there be some mistake about Lex?”
Lex snorted. “She wouldn’t be stupid enough to do it herself. She only needed someone who worships her to act. The one who made me disappear in Listoria City was her lackey, Julliard.” 1
Victoria and Scott fell silent, unsure what to say.
In the past, Scott would have stormed off immediately to drag Sharon in for answers. But now… he hesitated. He’d begun to harbor doubts about her.
After a moment, Scott asked, “Lex, do you have any proof?”
Lex’s gaze sharpened. He sensed the subtle shift in Victoria and Scott’s attitude toward Sharon-they weren’t as certain as before.
Victoria looked at Samantha. “Samantha, would you mind leaving us alone with Lex for a bit?”
This matter involved Sharon and the Kalen family. Samantha slipped quietly from the ward, leaving Victoria and Scott beside the bed.
Victoria recounted what had happened since Sharon returned home and how Jamie’s crimes had been exposed on the livestream. Lex’s expression darkened as she spoke.
“How ruthless,” he muttered.
From Victoria’s account, he realized the abduction had been laid bare, but he had nothing to do with it-he
hadn’t laid a hand on Sharon.
Scott added, “Lex, Sharon is dangerous now. Without proof, she could easily turn the accusation back on you.”
Lex said, “After I fled, Julliard kept sending men after me. I hid and moved for nearly a month. Even if you’d found that cellar now, it had probably already been destroyed. Julliard wouldn’t leave a trace that could get him caught.”
Scott pressed on. “Do you have anything linking Sharon to this?”
Lex was silent for a few seconds. “Not at the moment.”
Victoria exhaled softly. “Then we’ll have to bear with this for a while and wait until evidence turns up.”
Lex hadn’t expected so much to happen while he was missing-Sharon publicly confronting Jamie, for one.
But in hindsight, it made sense: Jamie had been the one to cripple Sharon’s hand in the first place. Fortunately, he’d left a thread-someone recorded that night, and the footage surfaced.
Whether Sharon found that proof or how she obtained it remained unclear, but in any case, it hadn’t damaged
