Chapter 1085
Julliard almost laughed from sheer frustration.
“So when we stand too close to Sharon, it’s ruining her reputation–but when you do it, it’s righteous duty? Thomas, don’t you think you’re being a bit of a hypocrite?”
Thomas’s tone remained calm. “I’m Sharon’s bodyguard. Protecting her safety is my job. Naturally, it’s justified. But you, Julliard…” His lips curved faintly. “As Carter’s friend, you seem far more concerned about Sharon than her ex–husband is.”
Carter’s gaze flickered slightly, but Julliard’s expression turned cold.
“Sharon is Theo’s mother,” he said evenly. “Because of Kelly’s lies, we misunderstood her for a long time–we owe her an apology, even compensation. Besides…”
His eyes shifted toward Carter, his brow creasing with guilt. “Last time, you told me to keep her safe, but because of my own carelessness, she was kidnapped. I’ve known Sharon for years. Is it so wrong for me to care about her?”
Thomas retorted, “Julliard, don’t you think you’re the one being too attentive to your friend’s ex–wife?”
Julliard opened his mouth to retort, but Carter cast him a thoughtful glance that made him freeze.
Carter finally said, “In any case, let’s go downstairs and wait for Sharon.”
Since Carter had spoken, Julliard had no reason to persist.
“All right.”
Once they were out of Thomas’s sight, Julliard spoke again, “Carter, don’t let Thomas get in your head. He’s trying to stir trouble.”
Carter’s handsome features remained unreadable.
“I didn’t believe him,” he said. “But Julliard… don’t you think you’ve been talking a bit too much tonight?”
Julliard froze for a second. He wasn’t normally a man of few words, but neither was he one to speak excessively. Tonight, goaded by Thomas’s provocation, he’d clearly lost his composure.
When Sharon finished changing and stepped out, only Thomas was waiting by the door. Carter and Julliard were nowhere to be seen.
She didn’t seem surprised. “Why didn’t you wait for me downstairs?”
“I didn’t feel comfortable leaving you alone.” Thomas frowned slightly. “Something feels… off tonight.”
“Off?” Sharon looked at him curiously. “Is there something wrong with the fitting room?”
He lowered his gaze, thoughtful for a moment. “No. I can’t say exactly what it is, but we should stay cautious.” 1

Sharon nodded lightly. “I wonder if Jamie or Lex will show up tonight.”
“Lex shouldn’t,” Thomas replied. “His injuries won’t heal that fast. As for Jamie… if he dares show his face here again, I’ll throw him out myself.”
