Chapter 240
Carter was stunned-furious and bewildered all at once.
Sharon had actually dared to do this to him?
She picked up a disinfectant wipe from the table and, without a flicker of emotion, wiped her chin and wrist clean.
“What’s got you so worked up?” Her voice was even, almost indifferent. “Didn’t you use to bargain with me the same way? Didn’t you threaten me with Theo, just like this?”
She tossed the wipe into the trash and looked at him, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly-not quite a smile.
“You were a good teacher. I only learned from the best.”
The image of Sharon’s stubborn refusal to apologize to Kelly flickered in his mind, and for a moment, Carter found it hard to breathe.
She wasn’t wrong. He had threatened her like that before.
Not missing the shift in his expression, Sharon softened her tone just slightly.
“Nate’s future… your precious Kelly’s life… are those really worth less than money?”
Carter narrowed his eyes: “I’m not giving you half of everything I own.”
A trace of cold amusement stirred in Sharon’s chest.
So this was it. His ridiculous, mindless favoritism toward Kelly-it had its limits. As long as it didn’t cost him anything. The moment it touched his bottom line, even Kelly wouldn’t be immune.
Of course, Sharon had never expected to get half.
That was just the opening bid-something to bargain down from.
The main lobby of the clinic had security cameras. The inner room didn’t.
When Nate kicked down the door and barged in, he got a full face of medicinal powder.
He hadn’t even realized what hit him-he’d assumed it was just some fallen shelving, nothing serious
And the cameras hadn’t captured any of it.
Silence settled in the room.
Carter didn’t say a word for a long time.
