Wendy couldn’t hold back anymore. “Theo, who told you your mom doesn’t speak any foreign languages? Her skills are actually excellent.”

A Bell University student, after all, had to be. It was an international conservatory filled with musicians from every corner of the world, with every language imaginable floating through its halls. If you couldn’t handle foreign languages, you couldn’t even survive your courses, let alone excel.

Not to mention, the university offered comprehensive language programs, and Sharon, with her exceptional musical talent, had spent years attending global masterclasses and exchange programs. Mastering multiple languages–mainstream and obscure- was as routine to her as breathing.

For her and Wendy, it wasn’t even worth boasting about. It was simply… expected.

Theo shook his head firmly, disbelief hardening his face. “Wendy, stop lying for Mom. She never even went to college. How could she know any of that?”

Wendy blinked. “Says who she didn’t go to college?”

“Grandma said so.”

Wendy pressed her temples, visibly exasperated. “Theo, you shouldn’t believe everything your grandma says. Your mom did graduate from college.”

Kelly let out a soft laugh, as if she couldn’t hold it in anymore.

“Oh please, Wendy. I get wanting a child to admire his mother–to paint her as strong, brilliant, admirable. A little exaggeration here and there is understandable. But lying just out of pure jealousy… that’s pushing it.”

“Jealousy?” Wendy’s brow arched, gaze sweeping Kelly from head to toe, laced with undisguised scorn. “Jealous of you? Honey, you and Sharon aren’t even in the same league. Don’t flatter yourself.”

Kelly didn’t show the slightest trace of anger. Instead, she smiled, like someone who’d already seen the ending to a play. “Well. If that’s what you say… then so be it.”

She dropped her gaze to Theo, her voice turning gentle again. “Theo, how about this? Let Sharon accompany you to the event, hmm?”

Theo hesitated, just for a second. But then the memory of how cold his mom had been to him earlier surged back, and with it came a fresh wave of resentment.

“I don’t want to!” His little chin jutted stubbornly. “She doesn’t even want to be my mom anymore. I don’t want her to go with me, either!”

He’d even gone out of his way to get the cup back from Kelly to give it to his mom, and she had still treated l
