Chapter 392
Sharon’s hand trembled. The water in her glass spilled over, splashing against her fingertips.
Julliard acted as if he hadn’t noticed her reaction. “Nate mentioned… from the sound of it, Madeline seems to want Carter to marry Kelly.”
He went on, “These days, it’s been Kelly taking care of Theo. Madeline seems pretty set on helping the two of them build a bond.
Sharon kept her head down, saying nothing.
Julliard hesitated, then softly apologized. “Sorry. Maybe I said too much.”
She slowly lifted her gaze. “No… it’s fine. Honestly, it’s not surprising. They’ve always liked Kelly. I’m used to it. It’s just… I didn’t expect Madeline to be so accepting of Kelly. I thought she’d want Carter to marry someone… well, someone from his own
circle.”
Julliard nodded slightly. “She probably thought that way at first. But the more she saw Kelly’s… qualities, the more her view
shifted.
“Plus, she’s worried. Whoever Carter marries will also become Theo’s stepmother. What if the kid doesn’t like her? What if she doesn’t treat him well?”
“From what Nate says, Madeline’s already pushing Carter to pick a date. She wants him to marry Kelly soon.”
Even though Sharon was already divorced from Carter, the absurdity of it still left a hollow echo in Sharon’s chest.
Madeline didn’t bother breaking them up before, but now she was eager to patch Carter and Kelly together.
Funny how that worked out.
The waiter arrived, setting the dishes neatly on the table.
It wasn’t until the plates were all down that Julliard finally said what he’d really come for.
“Sharon… honestly, there’s another reason I asked you out today.”
Sharon looked up. “What is it?”
Whenever Julliard contacted her, it was never pointless. He always brought valuable information.
His dark eyes met hers. “Sharon… do you know about ‘Star’?”
The second she heard it, Sharon understood. The answer was already there in his gaze.
“You know I’m Star.” She didn’t bother hiding it. “How did you find out?”
Julliard smiled slightly. “Someone asked me to investigate.”
Sharon didn’t even need to guess twice. “Carter?”
A hint of admiration flickered in his eyes. “That’s right. It was Carter. Kelly wants to hire Star as her exclusive composer. For three years. The offer is ten million.
“No restrictions on competitions. No restrictions on other commercial work. The only condition is, Star can’t be anyone else’s exclusive composer during the contract. Just Kelly’s.”
So, the person who had tried to hire Wendy with ten million… was Carter.
Honestly, when she first heard Wendy mention the offer, her heart had stirred.

Ten million for three years. Anyone else wouldn’t think twice to take up the deal.
Carter was truly generous.
And from the way Julliard described it, the terms were more than fair. Freedom to perform, freedom to make money-no suffocating restrictions.
Except… Star never did public appearances.
The name itself was enough to draw attention. The more she was seen, the more attention it would pull toward Kelly. It was perfect for Kelly.
Carter was always thinking of Kelly, wasn’t he?
At the Biggs Group headquarters, Simon knocked anxiously on the office door before stepping in. His brows were furrowed.
“Mr. Biggs… no matter what conditions we offer, Star still refuses. Today, she didn’t even pick up the phone…”
Carter lifted his eyes. “Why?”
“She keeps saying… she’s not good at composing violin pieces. I told her that’s fine, that she could compose in her preferred style. But she wouldn’t budge. I even told her-name any price, any terms. Still, nothing works.”
Carter’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Those are just excuses. She simply… doesn’t want to take it.”
