Chapter 403
Carter’s penetrating gaze settled on Sharon, carrying an oppressive weight that was hard to ignore.
“You didn’t know?”
“Of course not,” Sharon replied calmly. “Do you really think I can predict the future?”
Carter found no trace of guilt on her face.
If she truly didn’t know, then she was either telling the truth or a remarkably good actress.
His voice remained cool and steady. “According to my investigation, the ones who attacked Kelly’s studio were your fans.”
“So what?” Sharon replied.
Carter accused, “Doesn’t that mean you were the one behind it?” 1
Sharon chuckled. “If I did it, I wouldn’t have a problem admitting it. Yes means yes, no means no. As much as I’d love to do something like that, I’ve been busy preparing for my concert. I don’t have time to waste on irrelevant people.”
Carter said flatly, “Whether you did it or not, two million in compensation is more than fair.”
“Fair?” Sharon lifted her eyes to meet his, her gaze sharp and unwavering. “My concert is right around the corner. I have to find a new studio, renovate it, and rebuild everything from scratch.
Your time matters, but mine doesn’t?”
His tone turned colder. “Blame your fans. They’re the ones who destroyed Kelly’s studio.”
Sharon understood exactly what he meant.
Even if she hadn’t done it herself, she still bore responsibility. After all, those people were her fans. And from where Carter stood, she was far from innocent.
She and Kelly had never gotten along. In the eyes of both Carter and Nate, she had “bullied” Kelly right in front of them.
So, throwing paint on Kelly’s studio? It wouldn’t be out of character.
Sharon calmly placed the contract back on the table. “If you want the studio, then stick to the amount I gave you- ten million. You pay, I hand over the keys.”
Carter’s face turned icy. “Sharon, you’re being greedy. Take the compensation while I’m still offering it. Be smart.”
“And if I refuse?”
A cold smile touched Carter’s lips, though his eyes glinted with a chilling light.
“If I’m not mistaken, the studio isn’t in your name. It belongs to John, doesn’t it?”
Sharon’s expression shifted. Wariness flashed through her eyes as she stared at him. “What are you planning? Carter, whatever it is, take it out on me!”
His gaze swept across her tense face, and the coldness in his eyes deepened.
In that moment, for reasons he couldn’t quite explain, Carter suddenly understood why, despite Sharon once being everything he thought he wanted, he had grown bored of her.
“Not once,” he said, “have you ever stood up for me the way you’re standing up for John right now.”
Sharon frowned slightly, confused by the sudden shift.

She said coldly, “There are plenty of people lining up to defend you. Do you really need mine?”
Carter’s lips curled into a mocking smirk as he looked at her frosty expression.
“And here I thought you were some perfectly programmed robot–always calm, never angry, completely emotionless. But it turns out… you do have feelings. Just not for me.”
For the longest time, Sharon had ticked every box in his mind: the perfect wife.
She was gentle, thoughtful, and endlessly understanding.
It didn’t matter if he wasn’t by her side when she gave birth. It didn’t matter if he never answered her calls when she needed
him. She never got angry.
Instead, she’d always say gently, “It’s okay. Go take care of your work.”
As if… she never needed him at all.
