Chapter 416
Sharon said, “With Kelly’s ‘terminal illness’ and her relentless determination as bonus points, it’s hard for anyone with a shred of compassion not to be moved.”
Wendy frowned. “But she’s faking it!”
Sharon’s tone remained steady. “Unfortunately, Maestro Warner doesn’t know that.”
Wendy still couldn’t swallow her anger.
“Then he’s just a confused old man who can’t tell right from wrong. He actually thinks Kelly is better than you? Just wait. He’s going to regret it sooner or later. Sharon, we have to put everything we’ve got into this concert. Let’s hit Kelly and Maestro Warner right where it hurts!”
Sharon had already cooled down from her initial fury and frustration.
“It’s fine. This just proves that Maestro Warner and I aren’t cut from the same cloth. He may be a world-class maestro, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the right mentor for us.”
Wendy nodded. “You don’t need anyone to guide you, Sharon. You’re not lacking in talent or direction. All you’ve ever needed is an opportunity.”
Sharon said, “Still, I owe Felipe a thank-you. He got me the invitation and even introduced me to Maestro Warner. He’s helped
me a lot.”
Wendy grinned. “Felipe, huh? He’s clearly into you. Maybe you should give it some thought?”
She winked playfully. “Even if you don’t want to get married, a little romance couldn’t hurt, right?”
Sharon shook her head with a smile. “I’m not thinking about relationships right now. I just want to focus on building my career.
Wendy had only been teasing and didn’t press the issue after hearing her response. She glanced around the studio she had personally decorated, and her voice was filled with regret. “So we’re really going to lose this place?”
Sharon replied, “Whether we keep it or not, we need to be prepared. Better to have a backup plan than be caught off guard. If Kelly really does manage to take this studio, and we don’t have another space to rehearse, it could delay the entire concert. Especially now that Carter’s involved…”
Before she could finish, a knock sounded at the door.
Because of the lingering smell of paint, the door had been left open. A tall, sharply dressed man in a tailored suit stepped gracefully inside.
“This is the place?” he asked, glancing at the man following behind him.
Simon smiled slightly. “Yes. The last trace led us right here.”
Carter gave a soft grunt of acknowledgment and strode forward under Simon’s guidance,
Sharon had her back to the door and hadn’t noticed the movement behind her.
She continued speaking to Wendy, “Ask Casey to come in tomorrow. The other two floors are still functional, so she can start familiarizing herself with the concert program. Oh, and the venue for the concert… It’s already booked, right?”
Wendy nodded. “The contract’s been signed ages ago. Don’t you trust my efficiency?”
Before she could say more, Sharon noticed her expression shift into something strange.
स
“Wendy? What’s wrong?”
Wendy stared past her, silent.
Feeling something was off, Sharon turned around.
Carter’s cold, handsome face came into view.
“Carter?” Her expression immediately turned frosty. “What are you doing here?”
Carter didn’t answer. Instead, he glanced at Simon.
Simon let his gaze rest briefly on both Wendy and Sharon before nodding lightly in confirmation.
For the past few days, he had been investigating everything related to “Star.”
And at the top of that list was Wendy, the one who had been communicating with him.
Wendy’s social circle was relatively simple, so digging into her background hadn’t been difficult.
