Side Chick Era Over (Sharon and Carter) novel Chapter 435

Chapter 435

So it was Carter who had gone after John.

Makes sense. With Sharon harder to target directly, hitting someone close to her was a convenient way to send a warning-and it also served as a form of revenge on Kelly’s behalf.

Suppressing the flicker of delight in her eyes, Kelly murmured softly, “Carter… If it’s so difficult for Sharon, maybe we should just drop it?”

Sharon let out a light laugh. “If he were truly willing to drop it, he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to force my hand.”

Carter glanced at her, his expression dark and unreadable, “Sharon, you should know you’re in no position to negotiate with me right now.”

At that, Sharon stood up without hesitation. “Fine. If you think I’m not qualified to negotiate, then I’ll leave. You can go find someone who is.”

She walked toward the door. There wasn’t a hint of reluctance in her retreat.

Everyone in the room was stunned.

If John had really been targeted by Carter, then Sharon’s visit today-offering to give up the studio and even compose a piece for Kelly-was clearly a gesture of goodwill, a plea for mercy on John’s behalf.

By all logic, she should’ve been humble, maybe even begging.

But instead… she acted like this?

Sharon had just opened the door and was about to step out when Carter suddenly stood up and grabbed her wrist.

He stared into her eyes. “Don’t you care what happens to John?”

Sharon let out a cold chuckle. “Carter, I remember you once told me-when asking for a favor, one should act like they’re

asking.

. “You came to me for help, and when I didn’t agree, you resorted to vile, underhanded tactics to pressure me into submission.

“You really think that’s going to break me? That I’ll grovel and let you do whatever you please?”

Her tone was calm, almost amused, but her eyes were icy, like spring water running over stone-cold, detached, sharp.

“Yes, I admit my bond with John is deep. That’s why I came today. But if you think that gives you the right to use him against me, to control and manipulate me, then I’m afraid you’ve miscalculated.

“John matters to me, but not so much that I’d abandon everything for his sake. You can keep trying to come after me. I may not be able to defeat you, but I can take a bite out of you.”

Nate, now knowing what had happened to John was indeed Carter’s doing, suddenly felt emboldened. (2)

He’d come here expecting to watch Sharon fall apart-disgraced, humiliated. Instead, she remained defiant, arrogant even.

He couldn’t stand it.

“Sharon,” he snapped, “John’s future is in our hands! You’d better show some respect when you speak to us, or—”

Sharon cut him off coldly, “You know what kind of people are usually the first to be eliminated?”

Before he could respond, she smiled and answered her own question. “The ones who think they’ve got someone by the throat and try to use it as leverage. Those people die the fastest.”

Nate froze, caught off guard.

Before he could come up with a retort, Carter spoke, “That’s enough. Both of you.”

Surprisingly, he didn’t seem the least bit angered by Sharon’s words. In fact, he almost looked… pleased.

He said evenly, “Sharon, I’ll give you ten minutes. Convince me.”

With those words, Carter signaled a concession.

Sharon glanced at Nate and Kelly, whose expressions looked as if they’d just swallowed something vile, and then calmly returned to her seat.

Carter had never intended to push things to the brink. His goal had always been the studio and the concert, for Kelly’s sake.

Now that Sharon was already here, he clearly had no intention of burning bridges.

And just moments ago…
