Chapter 441
Besides, there was also Theo to consider.
Because of Kelly–the other woman-their marriage had fallen apart. Things had escalated to the point of knives being drawn and blood being spilled. A scandal like that, even in elite circles, would spread like wildfire over tea and dinner.
Neither the Biggs family nor Carter could afford that kind of humiliation.
Julliard immediately understood what Sharon meant. He stayed silent for a long time before finally speaking.
“Sharon, you’re gambling. What if… what if Carter really does care more about saving face than anything else? You’d be throwing yourself under the bus.”
Sharon let out a careless smile. “If I don’t vent this resentment now, I might really end up doing something irreversible someday. I might actually kill him.”
Julliard’s lips parted as if to speak, but in the end, he fell silent.
Forget it. Things had already spiraled this far. And as for John’s incident… it wasn’t Carter’s doing, but maybe it was better not to
tell her.
Elsewhere, Xavier raised a brow as he listened to his assistant’s report.
“So, that Driad heir who gave Wendy trouble… He’s not one of Carter’s people?”
The assistant nodded. “No, actually… he’s connected to John’s family.”
“John’s family, huh?” Xavier flipped through the file his assistant handed him. His obsidian-black eyes narrowed slightly.
His sharp brows lifted. “So the person who leaked that dirt about John wasn’t Carter either. It was John’s own family?”
“That’s right. John’s family wants him to return home. He refused, so they resorted to this kind of tactic to force his hand.”
Xavier asked, “Does John know?”
“He probably does. His family has approached him several times.”
Xavier lounged lazily on the couch, his posture relaxed, but his eyes sharp.
“So John knows full well that Carter wasn’t behind this, and yet he hasn’t told Sharon… That’s a shrewd little move.”
The assistant added, “While I was looking into this, I noticed Julliard’s been poking around too. I’d guess he knows the truth as well.”
A faint, unreadable smile tugged at the corners of Xavier’s lips.
“So John kept quiet, and even Carter’s closest friend, Julliard, didn’t breathe a word to her? Funny, I heard Julliard has been passing messages to Sharon pretty regularly. For him to stay silent now and let Carter take the fall… that’s quite something.”
From across the room, Matty, who was busy with his homework, looked up at Xavier.
“Daddy, are you going to tell Sharon?”
Xavier glanced down at his son, a touch of mischief dancing, in his eyes. “John and Julliard both chose to keep their mouths shut. You think I’m going to stick my neck out for Carter? His ‘best friend’ won’t even help him. Why should I?”
Matty blinked. “But what if Mr. Biggs explains everything to Sharon?”
1/2
Xavier chuckled. “Even if he denies it, Sharon won’t believe him. In her mind, Carter’s credibility has long since hit rock bottom. Besides… Carter won’t explain anything.” (
The assistant, intrigued and a bit confused, asked, “But if Mr. Biggs isn’t the one behind John’s scandal, why wouldn’t he explain himself?”
