Chapter 447
Sharon fell silent for a few seconds before finally saying, “We’ll just have to take it one step at a time.”
Wendy suddenly remembered something. “Oh, right, didn’t Mr. Malcolm call you a few days ago? He asked you to prepare a performance for his old buddies. Has the date been set yet? I heard Matty has been practicing hard too. Last time I overheard Matty telling Mr. Malcolm he wanted to perform for the old folks as well.”
Sharon nodded. “It’s scheduled for the end of the month, but…”
Noticing her hesitation, Wendy asked, “But what?”
Sharon frowned slightly. “The venue Mr. Malcolm gave me is the most luxurious private club in Amstern City. Apparently, we can’t even get past the door without a membership.”
Wendy waved it off. “Maybe he’s just inviting some of his old military comrades, and since it’s a rare occasion, he wants to make it special.”
She patted Sharon on the shoulder and added, “Don’t be fooled by how Mr. Malcolm guards that run-down clinic. He’s been practicing medicine his whole life. He’s got savings and connections. Hosting a concert in a high-end place like that isn’t strange at all. He’s not really materialistic, so who’s to say this isn’t the one thing he’s willing to splurge on?”
Sharon thought about it and found the logic sound. She nodded in agreement.
Wendy said, “Sharon, do you want me to go with you tonight? Just in case Nate tries to pull something shady again, I’ll be there to back you up.”
Sharon gently shook her head. “No need. I can handle it.”
She wasn’t worried about herself. She was more concerned that Nate might shift his scheming onto Wendy.
Wendy seemed to guess what she was thinking and didn’t insist. “If anything happens, promise me you’ll call.”
“I will.”
That evening, Sharon arrived on time at the cruise ship concert venue, just as Nate had instructed.
Perhaps anticipating that she’d leave immediately if they tried to make trouble at the entrance, they made no attempt to stop
her.
She boarded the cruise without a hitch.
The ship was even grander than she had imagined-ornate, dazzling with gold, and extravagantly luxurious.
During her years with the Kalen family, Sharon had seen her share of opulence. Even so, this cruise ship still ranked among the top five most luxurious places she had ever been.
“Never been to a place like this before, have you?”
Nate appeared behind her at some point, a cigarette dangling lazily from his lips as he stood a short distance away.
Sharon asked, “Where’s Kelly?”
“She’s backstage, getting ready to go on,” he replied, blowing a smoke ring. “Five years of marriage to Carter, and he never once brought you to an event like this, huh? Today, you only get to see this kind of occasion because you’re riding on Kelly’s
coattails.”
As if reminded of something, Nate added smugly, “Oh, and this performance was personally arranged by Maestro Warner

himself. Really, we should thank you. If you hadn’t handed over such a golden opportunity, Kelly would never have become Maestro Warner’s student so easily.”
As he spoke, Nate kept a close eye on Sharon’s face, hoping to catch a flicker of fury or frustration.
He had originally planned to pull something more malicious, just to mess with her. But Carter had sternly warned him: if he caused trouble for Sharon again, he’d be on his own cleaning it up.
Even Kelly had told him to knock it off. She said if he kept “helping” Sharon this way, she wouldn’t speak to him anymore.
So, he had no choice but to drop the idea.
Still, Nate wasn’t about to let Sharon walk away feeling too good. If he couldn’t attack her openly, then he’d strike at her pride.
That’s why he had invited her over behind Kelly and Carter’s backs, just to rub it in her nose.
