Chapter 658
Julliard sighed. “Nate may be impulsive, but he values loyalty above all else. Otherwise, he never would’ve risked his life to lead those men away from you back then. If Kelly hadn’t arrived in time to save him, Nate wouldn’t even be alive now.
“He grew up with us. If we don’t look out for him, who will? Are we really going to stand by and watch Lex destroy him and his family?”
Carter remained silent.
Julliard continued, “But you’re right about one thing. Nate has grown reckless. A small lesson might serve him well, force him to rein himself in. Still… he acted rashly this time, yes, but Lex isn’t exactly a saint either. Just this morning, a video surfaced of him bullying Sharon at the auction.”
He paused, studying Carter’s expression carefully.
“He harassed her in public, then turned around and went on a blind date with her. Carter, don’t you think maybe Lex is deliberately trying to get her attention? Do you think he’s interested in Sharon?”
Carter had already seen the morning’s news. Ever since learning the truth behind Sharon’s fall into the water, he had done everything possible to make amends. He ordered Simon to keep constant watch over any reports concerning her. Whenever she faced trouble, he tried to help.
His impression of Lex had always been poor. After watching that video, his distaste curdled into outright disgust. A man who could raise his hand against a woman revealed a truly despicable character.
Carter lifted his gaze and, through the rearview mirror, fixed Julliard with a deep look. “Julliard, you seem quite familiar with Sharon. Since when did you grow so close to her?”
Julliard’s expression didn’t waver. “We’re not that close. We’ve only spoken more often because of Theo, and I’ve had to step in a few times when Nate went too far. But what about that assistant of hers—the one named Thomas? Something about him doesn’t sit right with me.” 1
Carter’s fingers tightened on the wheel. “Why do you say that?”
“Thomas provoked you outright when he spoke, and you can’t tell me you didn’t notice. Besides, with looks like his, he could easily be a star. Why would a man like that settle for being a personal assistant at Sharon’s side?
“She’s your ex-wife, close to the Malcolm family, and she’s a Kalen heiress. What if he’s deliberately trying to get close to her? I don’t believe his intentions are that simple. He’s someone we need to watch.”
Carter silently agreed. A grown man with no proper career, lingering around a woman all day-what good could come of that?
He said coolly, “Maybe he’s just a pretty boy sponging off women. Hardly worth worrying about.”
Even so, Thomas’s constant presence at Sharon’s side was undeniably an eyesore. Carter would have to find a way to drive him out of her life.
Before long, the group arrived at Amstern City’s largest sports club. Theo, clearly no stranger here, moved with practiced ease. Even the staff at the entrance greeted him warmly.
“Hello, here again with your mother to practice shooting?”
Theo froze for a moment before realizing who the staff meant. He quickly corrected them. “She’s not my mother. She’s my aunt.
“1
Then he darted over to Sharon, clasping her hand tightly. “She’s my mom.”
The staff immediately apologized. “I’m so sorry, my mistake.”

Theo tilted his head to search Sharon’s expression. When he saw she wasn’t angry, he finally let out a small breath of relief.
