“Best case, Lex, that pervert, gets the same treatment, and his indecent photos flood the net too. Then his claim as heir will be stripped away.”

Kelly froze, unsettled. “That doesn’t sound like Carter’s style. Are you sure it was him?”

“Who else could it be?” Nate countered. “Sharon? Please. She doesn’t have the means for

something like this.”

But Kelly knew the truth. With Thomas acting as a mole by Sharon’s side, she was certain it hadn’t been Sharon. The most she had done was smash Damien’s hand-shattering it into pieces-and even then, she hadn’t struck the blow herself. No one could pin the act on her.

After a long silence, Kelly murmured, “Carter was too cruel this time…”

Damien took another heavy swig, his words slurring with drunken bitterness. “No, they won’t speak to my face. They’ll whisper behind my back instead…”
